1 Don't Be Afraid, Be Ready, Until June 30, Imagine Gallery
Alysse Stepanian and Philip Mantione have made, in 3-D, a Dr. Seuss depiction of the American government's color-coded terror alert system and its affect on the American psyche during post 9-11 America. Through installation pieces the pair try to reflect the constant paranoia incited in citizens by a governmental plan that claimed to protect.
**2 Beads on Silk: Until July 2, Beijing Tokyo Art Projects
**In 1997 Liu Zheng began creating works using beads and silk that eventually formed his distinct artistic identity. Zheng's handiwork runs a gamut of subjects including movie scenes, popular ads, monetary currencies, and Mao. Even if you don't enjoy his works aesthetically, you have to be impressed by all that beadwork.
**3 Red Gate's 15th Anniversary Exhibition, July 1 - August 27
**Red Gate celebrates its 15th anniversary with an exhibition of works at both the Dongbianmen Watchtower and the 798 Red Gate Gallery. The works shown at the 798 reflect the demolition and construction currently happening within Beijing. Pieces include Wang Jinsang's "One Hundred Signs of Demolition" and a Botero-esque sculpture of two faceless Chinese men by Zhu Wei.
**4 Wang Yin 2006: Until July 30: White Space Beijing
**Wang Yin's works are a play on the existing painting styles and is a playful collection of art references.
5 From Monet to Picasso, Beijing World Art Museum, Until August 27
47 paintings and 13 sculptures from the Cleveland Museum of Art are exhibited here in Beijing. The exhibition is divided into the following groupings: The Impressionist Epoch; Post-Impressionism; Early Modernist Sculpture and The Age of the Avant-Gardes. Highlights include: Pierre-Auguste Renoir's Romaine Lacaux; Claude Monet's The Red Kerchief: Portrait of Mrs. Monet; Vincent van Gogh's The Poplars at Saint-Remy; Pablo Picasso's Bottle, Glass, and Fork.
