Beijing's Zhong Sheng gives us a look at his day packed full of Midi Music Festival organization.

5:00 a.m. Home

In my dream, I am drowning in thousands of Midi Festival contracts.

6:48 Open eyes and am thankful I still have another hour of sleep.

8:50 Get up, finally. Stretch, listen to the radio, brush my teeth and wonder what to wear today. My white Puma t-shirt will match my cool, new Nike sneakers.

9:30 Turn on laptop. With a glass of hot water in hand, I'm ready for business.

10:00 First call comes in. It's the brand manager from City Weekend pushing me on the marketing contract. Contracts, contracts, contracts ...

10:30 Call my co-worker to discuss the Midi Festival schedule. We both sigh over the ever-changing schedule due to unexpected problems.

11:10 Feel a pain in my neck and lower back. Stretch.

11:23 Delivery guy arrives. Give him a document.

11:40 Go to 7-eleven downstairs. Buy two dishes plus soup. Same as yesterday, the day before and the day before that.

12:05 p.m. My mobile phone is ringing loudly. Answer call.

12:34 More calls from press come in. Our views conflict. Try to solve the problem.

1:00 Struggle with press release for Midi Festival.

1:30 Make tons of calls to confirm ads.

2:00 Grab my bag. Leave.

Taxi

2:15 In a traffic jam. Call my girlfriend so she doesn’t think I've replaced her with Midi.

Chaoyangmen

2:40 Finally arrive. Meet City Weekend’s brand manager; exchange contracts.

3:00 Meeting is over.

3:22 Excuse me. I have to go to the bathroom.

3:25 Back to the table, and order one more glass of carrot juice. I badly need vitamins.

Yugong Yishan Bar

4:00 Arrive late for a meeting with several bands who will play at Midi.

4:25 Quickly go over the contracts. My assistant comes in.

4:34 Tons of calls, again. Bands and singers are asking about the pre-promotion; entertainment companies are requiring the most up-to-date performers list; sponsors are curious where their ads will be on the stage.

5:28 Nathan from Gibson, our music instrument sponsor, arrives to confirm some details concerning the stage setting.

Café Nero

6:03 Meet a web editor. Go over needs.

7:15 My girlfriend is in a nearby shop so we have pizza and fried rice at Café Nero together.

8:10 We were going to watch “Babel,” but now it’s too late. My girlfriend suggests a walk nearby; it’s my honor to accompany her.

Zara

8:20 Come across three old friends with lots of shopping bags in hand. I decide to be careful wearing clothes bought at Zara. I definitely don’t want to dress the same as others.

9:45 Sift through racks of clothes.

Car

10:30 My girlfriend drives me home.

Home

10:45 Start to arrange all the contracts signed today, continue with the press release.

10:55 Send tons of e-mails. Call my girlfriend—she’s still driving on Chang An Avenue. Will call her later after she is home.

11:15 Give Zhang Fan, the headmaster of the Midi School of Music, a call. Report on today's work. The Midi Festival needs a passionate and professional leader like him!

11:48 Turn on the CD player, play Muse’s 2006 album. It reminds me of their exciting live concert in Japan last year. The beautiful sunset ...

12:45 a.m. Check my e-mail box one last time. Think about tomorrow’s work.

1:15 Dig up Pearl Jam’s old concert DVD. It’s still my favorite after so many years.

2:12 Fall asleep without a bath.
