To celebrate the Year of the Pig, Tingting from a farm outside of Beijing shares his day slopping around, eating, contemplating his year and more.

6 a.m. Wake up and think about breakfast.

6:15 Wonder where Farmer Ming is.

6:17 Wonder if Farmer Ming understands the importance of breakfast.

6:20 Become increasingly irritated over Farmer Ming's apparent lack of concern for being on time.

6:23 Snort wildly as Farmer Ming finally comes in with my favorite—slop spiked with baijiu.

6:24 Satiated. Can think of other things besides breakfast.

6:25 Gloat about the coming New Year—it’s finally MY year! I’ve been waiting 12 years for this.

6:30 Reminisce about 12 years ago—The Year of the Piglet.

6:33 Baijiu hits. Incapacitated.

6:35 Observe that Jiujiu the chicken is looking particularly fine today.

6:45 Fall asleep.

9:00 Wake up with a hangover.

9:01 Hope that lunch has some left over aspirin in it.

9: 40 Time for morning roll in the mud.

9:45 Praise the mud.

9:48 Meticulously rub mud in every crevasse on my body.

10:05 Lay still, let mud dry.

10:20 Enjoy the stiff sensation on my face.

11:00 Think about how nice mud is.

11:12 Start to get hungry again.

11:30 LUNCHTIME!!!!! Hangover is masked by the succulence of slop.

11:45 Notice Farmer Ming sharpening a meat cleaver and looking at me with shifty eyes.

11:46 Appetite dissipates slightly. Eat slower and with less gusto.

12:00 p.m. Overhear Farmer Ming remind his wife that the New Year is in a couple of days.

12:02 Thought occurs that Farmer Ming may intend to eat me someday.

12:04 Decide that it couldn’t possibly be true. Still, he’s sharpening the cleaver awfully enthusiastically.

12:20 Brood over possibility of being stuffed into dumplings.

12:30 Try to think on the bright side; it is my year after all.

12:31 Look for something to take my mind off Farmer Ming’s cleaver.

12:35 Start campaign to inform all the other farm animals that it is MY year now and the dog needs to step down.

12:36 Spread slogan around the farm: “Have No Fear in the Pig Year!”

12:40 Interrupt Farmer Ming’s dog while he polishes his torch. Make sure he doesn’t forget to pass it on to me in a few days.

12:45 Spy through the kitchen window.

12:46 Catch sight of Farmer Ming’s children making dumpling skins.

12:47 Panic ensues.

1:00 Change campaign slogan to “Beef. It’s the New Pork in '07!”

1:25 Tired from campaign work. Nap in the sun.

4:00 Wake up. Scratch snout against barn door.

4:06 Pick up on bad vibes coming from the cow pasture.

4:14 Tell cows to relax. I will create their campaign slogan come the Year of the Cow. Something like, “Beef is Nasty, Better Eat Something Else. Try Beans.”

5:48 After a long period of consideration, the cows decide they are satisfied with the slogan.

6:00 Dinnertime!

7:00 Feel sleepy but decide to go for one last roll in the mud.

8:00 Time for shuteye.

8:40 Have fantastic dream about living high on the hog this year.

9:55 Awake from disturbing nightmare where I was stuffed into dumplings by the hands of Farmer Ming’s children.

10:36 Feel hunger pangs despite horrible nightmare.

10:38 Eat leftover slop from dinner.

10:50 Pass out from anxiety.

Year of the Pig

Chinese communities around the globe are gearing up to ring in the Year of the Pig. While a parade will march through the streets of central London, festivities in Melbourne will feature karaoke competitions and culinary delights. Fragrant flower stalls and spectacular night parades are planned for Hong Kong's celebration. And for those of you sticking around the mainland, don't miss CCTV's annually televised Spring Festival Gala.

Wherever you end up celebrating, get online and send some Year of the Pig e-cards to friends and family: www.123greetings.com/events/chinese_new_year.
