DEWAR’S Brand Ambassador, Jordan Campbell, mixes whisky, football, kilts and the Highland fling with an expert hand
8:30 a.m.
Home (Hengshan Lu)
Wake up to my mobile phone alarm. That tune will be in my head all day.
8:35
Struggle out of bed, knocking into everything in my way.
8:36
Start my morning workout: I manage 10 push-ups—a big day for me!
8:37
Jump in the shower, brush my teeth, still humming the ring tone tune.
8:45
Get suited up, give a wink to the mirror. A quick Zoolander Magnum pose later and I am out the door. 9:00 Walk to the Bacardi office, pick up my daily fix of vanilla yoghurt and Kedi sandwich–breakfast is the most important meal of the day, after all.
Office
9:15
Stroll into the office, say my good mornings: another day, another dollar.
9:25
Check emails and read the sports section–Jose's left Chelsea–good news for Liverpool fans.
KFC
10:00
Head over to KFC for my Chinese course. All I’ve said so far is “xie xie” and five people whisper in amazement: “Ta zhongwen shuo de hen hao!”
11:30
Leave lesson clutching a list of 60 new words I need to learn. I have to give DEWAR’S Masterclasses in Chinese so I'm going to have to study these, not today though.
Office
11:45
Touch base with DEWAR'S international team regarding DEWAR'S Academy of Whisky.
12:30 p.m.
Leave office Jerry Maguire-style, asking “who’s with me?” My sarcasm is lost in translation and no one comes with me, so I take the fish instead.
12:45
Get a cab and head to the Academy of Whisky. On the way strike up a conversation about the wonders of whisky and the perils of “bai jiu.” I think may have converted him—to whisky, I mean.
Academy of Whisky
1:30
After a quick lunch at Moon River Diner, I head over to DEWAR'S Academy of Whisky and change into my uniform–a very sexy Scottish kilt with fitted black shirt. It's so sexy the promotional girls giggle and point at me.
1:45
Academy guests arrive. I meet and greet, exchange business cards, have some DEWAR'S 12 (with one cube of ice, my signature).
2:00
Kick off the Masterclass by entering through what appears to be a virtual door in our 270 degree, floor-to-ceiling wraparound multimedia screen. I present simultaneously with the virtual brand ambassador. Sometimes he tries to steal my limelight. Together we guide the audience through the history of whisky, Scotland and DEWAR’S.
2:30
With the Masterclass still in full swing, we move onto the part where guests get to blend their own whiskies.
2:40
One guest asks me to sample his blend. Not bad, but a bit too smoky for my taste.
3:15
Finish off the Masterclass with a competitive tasting, followed by more mingling and reiteration of what makes DEWAR’S stand out.
3:30
Guests leave and I prepare for the next session at 5 p.m.
3:35
Marvel at the bartender's mullet. He's always up-to-date with the latest trends in Chinese hair fashion.
3:45
Brush up on whisky knowledge and continue preparation for the Academy’s launch in Beijing on October 19.
5:00
Second Masterclass begins. This one’s for government officials so it's in Chinese. Pressure’s on.
6:30
Tear myself away from the threat of “ganbei” initiation, knowing that I have footy training.
6:40
Quick strip show as I change from kilt into footy clothes. The promotional girls are still giggling.
6:45
Ask Mark, DEWAR’S other Brand Ambassador, to cover tonight’s Masterclass as I dash over to Jing’an stadium for footy with the Shanghai Shooters.
Jing’an Stadium
7:00
Intense session with all the usual banter about the weekend’s exploits. Sweat buckets in the heat. Malone's
8:30
Change and head to Malone's for a pint. Whisky starts later.
DKD
9:30
Meet some friends at DKD. Since becoming the Brand Ambassador, I am very aware of the spirits selection in bars.
12:30 a.m.
After a little boogying and full implementation of the Highland fling, I head home. Noodle Shop
12:40
Stop for some ¥5 “la mian” at my local noodle shop.
Home
1:00
Watch the first episode of Prison Break season three. Those guys just can't seem to stay out of jail.
1:40
Put on L’Oreal moisturizer before I get my beauty sleep. Because I'm worth it.
1:55
Crash.
