Five questions for the infamous Mr. Clubzone

Jack Zhu launched Clubzone.cn in 2003 and has seen it grow from a niche forum for die hard clubbers into a full blown community of over 200,000 users. This year marks Clubzone's third annual end-of-summer blow-out bash. Last year's party featured FreQ Nasty and drew 2,800 partiers. This year’s throwdown at the Goose and Duck Ranch promises to be even more monumental with famed Italian breakbeat specialist DJ Madox headlining a roster of local DJ heroes.

CW: Why the Summer Love party?

JZ: We don’t see too many outdoor parties in Beijing. Our Clubzone members were asking, ‘Why are there no outdoor parties?’ So, we started the Summer Love Party to give them a great outdoor party.

The Goose and Duck is a little bit out of the way. Why not have it closer to Beijing?

First, you can’t have an outdoor party inside the fourth ring after midnight. Second, the Goose and Duck is only a little more than an hour outside the city. It has a nice villa where partiers can rent rooms and there’s a huge swimming pool. If you’re going to have a great outdoor party, you need a great swimming pool.

What do you think makes a great club?

Music. Music is the key that determines the audience and atmosphere. For a great club, you need music that has character but is also danceable. The décor should also have its own style. I like China Doll because it has its own unique character and design.

How is Beijing nightlife going to change in the run up to the Olympics?

A lot of people are coming to Beijing, and many of the hottest clubs are already booked for private parties. But this also means that the best DJs and party organizers in the world will be here. It will be expensive, but it will also be amazing.

If you could party with any of the Fuwa Olympic mascots which would you party with?

Haha. The panda. The panda is super cute.
