Party Like It’s 1984

This European pub, named after the fabled room in Orwell’s 1984, is run by a happy-go-lucky contingent of three-Frenchmen and one Chinese with extensive hospitality experience. It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and caters to a regular crowd of Europeans and Americans, which gives Room 101 a comfortable, at-home ambience. Here, beer lovers party with on-tap Hoegaarden (¥35) and cans of Asahi (¥15). On the weekends, its crowded pub atmosphere and the jazzy funk of its live acts continue well past midnight. With its polished wood and steep winding staircase, the English-pub-meets-yacht-bar décor may incite a little motion sickness when you’ve had one too many rounds, but the crowd of regulars always make you feel like you’re on hallowed ground.
