French - Haiqing Heyan

Good things are hard to find and Haiqing Heyan, tucked away in a small hutong, is worth the effort. There are only four rooms-themed flower, bird, fish and insect-and the chef steps up to the Teppanyaki plate dressed to a tee. Although they recommend the set meals (RMB388-2088), featuring fine meats along with delicacies like goose liver wrapped in Kobe steak, abalone, sea cucumber and shark fin, we decided to go a la carte. The vegetables wrapped in sirloin (RMB180), were tender and juicy, the shrimpfish (RMB65) crisp and light, Japanese fried rice (RMB45) a well prepared savory touch to the meal. Our last dish, the steamed egg with caviar and goose liver (RMB38), was to die for. Though we like the place before, we loved it even more after.
