Riding in Style

Subway Fares to Change

A more equitable fare system for the subway is likely to be adopted in Beijing early next year. Under the new system, passengers will pay for the ride depending on the distance traveled (as in Shanghai) instead of the current universal fare. Furthermore, automated ticket machines will also be installed in stations on Metro Lines 1 and 2 by July. Fabulous news for those adverse to the Chinese ticket window queue system (or lack there of!).

Party Bus

In the effort to bridge the gap between Sanlitun and the rest of the world Trio in Lido has launched a Friday night shuttle bus hitting the north gate of Worker’s Stadium at 9 p.m., Yashow at 9:15 p.m., then Chaoyang Park west gate at 9:30 p.m. (traffic permitting). The best part is, you get a free beer on the way.

French Cinema

This month Unifrance--- an organization promoting French cinema worldwide--- and the French Embassy, are hosting the fourth edition of the French Film Panorama in China. Beijingers will be able to watch a selection of 12 recently released feature films and 12 short films such as "How to Get Married and Stay Single," "Spy Bound," "Recto Verso" and "The Kiss." The festival runs from April 23-May 6 with screenings at the Xinshiji Multiplex, Xindongan Multiplex and French Cultural Centre Movie Theatres. For more information check: www.ccfpekin.org.

Good Food and Music

Uber-cool and tasty resto Alameda is spicing things up even more this spring. To complement their great food and enhance the ambiance, the resto now offers diners live music on Sundays from 4-7p.m. Can you think of a better way to while away a Sunday?

Extended Hours

If Monday-itis takes a stab at your pooch or kitty don’t despair. The International Centre for Veterinary Services (ICVS) has extended its opening hours to six days a week, including Monday. So now you can get you beloved pet taken care of from Mon-Sat, from 9am-6pm.

Go On, Take it Home

The all-new Peterpan Deli (attached to Peterpan Restaurant in north Sanlitun) is a great place to grab take-away Italian staples such as cheese, meats, pastas, sauces and deserts. Everything but dessert is sold by weight; so don’t let you eyes get bigger than your belly as prices run ¥60-220/kg.
