Being stuck indoors all day is no fun, so pack up the whole family and check out City Weekend's Top 5 Family Day Out Activities.
1 Beijing World Park
Travel the world in one day! The Beijing World Park has 100 world-famous man-made and natural wonders from nearly 50 countries throughout the world. It is the largest miniature theme park in Asia. The park is divided into Asia, Africa, Europe, America and Latin America. Take a "global voyage" by speed boat or battery operated car. Check: www.beijingworldpark.com
2Jiu Hua Spa & Resorts
After a long week of work and school, there's nothing like a dip in a hot spring. There are many hot springs in the suburbs of Beijing. Jiu Hua Spa in Changping District might be one of the best choices. Enjoy countryside style food, spas, and hiking around in the sunshine! Tel: 6178-2288.
3 798 Art District
Head out to 798 for a day of art. In the large old factory area, there are many galleries where you can enjoy contemporary art, oil paintings, sculptures, installations, and all kinds of handicrafts and ornaments.
4 Blue-Zoo
There aren't many chances in Beijing to get upclose with rare sea creatures. The abalone on your plate last night didn't count. For an exotic underwater experience, head out to one of the largest aquariums in Asia. The main attraction is the central tank holding 3.5 million litres of water. A complete eco-system has been created in this tank to allow thousands of fish to live in their natural surroundings. A 110 metre long transparent underwater acrylic tunnel runs through the main tank, allowing visitors to view the underwater world as if through the eyes of a diver. The kids will get a kick out of watching trained divers feed the sharks twice a day.
5 Beijing Amusement Park
Although it is still too early to try the water slide, other interesting activities like roller coasters, pirate ships, ferris wheels, and a haunted house, will keep your adrenaline pumping all day. Be warned though, the lines are long! Check listings for more info.
