Molto Bene

Passby Restaurant (Nanluoguxiang)

It might be the golden, glimmering top layer of mozzarella cheese, the subtle hints of rosemary and thyme in the bolognese sauce, or perhaps the hearty texture of each and every bite of egg noodles. In any case, layer after layer of Passby Restaurant's Lasagna al Forno (¥42) is comfort food at its very best. Avoiding the ricotta cheese overload that unfortunately plagues many a lasagna, Passby has crafted a flavorful, substantial dish that only tastes better when we are scraping the last drops of sauce from the cast iron minipot with the help of the crusty rolls.

Gisa's Restaurant (Chaoyang ParK)

Gisa's Classic Lasagna (¥65) blends zesty morsels of Italian sausage and succulent fresh noodles to make the skeptics reconsider previous doubts about the possibility of a romantic date at the Italian resto. Embellished with long-simmered tomato sauce brightly seasoned with fennel, and bubbling with sharp bites of parmesan cheese, Gisa's lasagna proves that good things really do come to those who wait. Pair it with a glass of house red, and finish your meal off with the divine tiramisu, and all you need is a sexy date for the perfect romantic dinner.

Ritan | Alla Osteria

The Lasagna Bolognese at Alla Osteria (¥65) is one example where a Chinese moniker is more apt the descriptor. Rou jiang qian ceng mian, or "meat sauce thousand layer noodle" cues up the dense and hearty portion which nearly swallows your plate. Flavorful ground beef alternates with substantial al dente pasta doused in a generous serving of garlicky tomato sauce; a fine counterpoint to cascades of parmesan cheese. Baked by a watchful chef, this rich dish hits all the right notes down to the crunchy, darkened edges.
