All this week City Weekend serves up the best meals in Beijing for two people for ¥199 or less. The ¥199 cap includes any surcharges but does not include bevvies. We've already covered American meals, Euro offerings and Luxe Lunches. Today we look at the range of Asian selection the city has to offer.

Purple Haze

A laid-back atmosphere permeates this intimate restaurant across from Workers Stadium. An adventurous start to dinner is the pomelo salad (¥40). For mains, order the red curry with beef and pumpkin (¥48) and the chicken wings with shrimp meat (¥58). The bill comes to ¥146—but for an extra ¥30, Thai beer lovers can get their Singha fix.

Tel: 6413-0899

Ganges

This go-to Indian restaurant has four branches throughout Beijing. Tandoori chicken (¥55) is a classic starter. For mains, try the mutton maratha (¥58), a coconut-based lamb curry, and the vegetable kadai (¥42), a dish delicately flavored with cashew. Don't forget garlic naan (¥15) and a side order of rice (¥9). Even at just ¥179, this meal will leave you with some leftovers for takeaway.

Ganges: B138A, The Place, 9 Guanghua Lu, B138A, Tel: 6587-2999

Sake Manzo

The miso-flavored oden (¥30) here is one of Beijing's best Japanese dining deals. With several types of tofu, radish, carrot, quail egg and cuttlefish, it's a delicious hot dish perfect for sharing. Follow this with two mains: soba noodles with grated yam, seaweed and nameko mushroom (¥35) and grilled eel Nagoya style (¥60), and you still have funds left for a sashimi sampler (¥70).

Tel: 6436-1608

Noodle Bar

Noodle Bar is a chill date spot on the funky grounds of 1949-The Hidden City. Noodle Bar's set menu is a downright bargain—at ¥96, dinner for two costs just under one red Mao. The set includes hand-pulled beef brisket, tendon and tripe noodles prepared right before your eyes. Cap off the evening a glass of their lovely sugarcane juice (¥15).

Noodle Bar: 1949-The Hidden City, Courtyard 4, Gongti Beilu, Tel: 6501-1949

Rumi

Contemporary yet classy, Rumi serves top-notch Persian fare. But what makes Rumi stand out is its BYO policy—at no extra charge. Order the stuffed peppers (¥34) for a sweet and savory start. Next, get the chicken shish kebab with saffron rice (¥69) and gheimeh badenjan stew (¥69) stuffed with lamb, split peas, and eggplant. Leave room for the Persian baklava (¥24).

Rumi: Intersection of Gongti Beilu and Third Ring Road, Tel: 8454-3838

Hatsune

Even though it's a heavyweight on the dining scene, Hatsune can surprise with meal options for under ¥200. Start with a sliced pork "shabu shabu salad" (¥38), then dig into a set of Hatsune's famous dragon rolls (¥55) and assorted vegetable tempura (¥28). Close out the meal with the chicken teriyaki (¥36) glazed in a sweet, salty sauce and sake gohan (¥28).

S8, Tel: 6415-3939
