Traveling with Kids Part 2

While clicking around on one of my favorite family websites, Parenting.com I came across this article questioning the need for child-free flights.

"Hm," I thought. "What an interesting concept."

It was only a few weeks ago I blogged about my utter frustration with parents who sit idly by as their children ruin the plane journey for each and every passenger on the plane. Screaming children are also a problem for airlines themselves. A woman actually sued Qantas airlines because a 3-year-old next to her allegedly screamed so loud that her ears bled.

But the idea of exiling kids altogether to a single plane never occurred to me--nor does it seem feasible.

Still, the idea is drawing up a decent number of advocates.

According to the article, "a majority of passengers now advocate a families-only section on airplanes. Almost 20% would even support child-free flights. A Boston man who started a Facebook group called Airlines Should Have Kid-Free Flights said... that (predictably) he would be willing to pay extra for child-free flights."

I'm tempted to say that I would too--well, depending on how much.

But let's face it, a kid-free flight is pretty much impossible.

For one, it would be extremely cruel to the flight attendants and pilots on the plane. Can you imagine row after row of crying children and exasperated parents? Good grief.

Second of all, there are actually wonderful parents out there who don't deserve to be subjected to the same horrors that we non-parents fear. Surely these parents should be exempt from the "kid flights."

Kid-free flights: A good idea or not?

"A woman actually sued Qantas airlines because a 3-year-old next to her allegedly screamed so loud that her ears bled." ????? Are you joking? She needs to see a Doctor. Kid-free flights: A good idea or not? It is not a good or bad idea. It's a very complicated issue. It's easy for us to say "suck it up" because as a parent, we never want our child or children to scream, and we will never remember how loud we screamed when we were a kid. Everyone (except people don't want to have kids or people don't have kids) will experience the same thing when they travel with their child/children, it is understandable for me when I hear someone else's child cry. We all go through it, so put your feet into the others shoes! If someone wants to pay more for kid-free flights, he/she might as well get his/her own private air plane. When your day comes, you will never want to hear the others saying "I want to fly without being with any children"

Another question: Snoring free flights - a good idea or a bad idea? (pjsheeps, this has nothing to do with you, I am writing this to whoever thinks they should have kid-free flights) As for me, I noticed there are some people talk very loud on the air plane, when the babies go to sleep or when they want to go to sleep, they need a quiet environment, so what do parents do? When people snore, others just can't sleep. Maybe some people will say snoring is not as bad as screaming. Yes, it is the same when you want to go to sleep. That's why people use ear plugs. People are different, I believe people don't snore on purpose, kids don't scream on purpose. When they become adults, they don't scream. Human development is very "interesting". If those people who like kid-free flights want to make the parents feel guilty then forget it, because as for parents, they feel very bad when their kids cry or scream, and they are trying their best to deal with them, some times things are out of control. It is easy to say go and teach your kids than done. Parenting is not easy! How would you feel about your parents when the others told them you were being too loud?

child-free flights, mmmm.... we're supposed to have non smoking flights, but when you're sat next to someone who's just spent the last hour since check in puffing their way through as many cigarettes as possible in the very rank smelling airport smoking room, hardly seems effective! As for a families-only section, i feel sorry for those sat right next to this section! at least if the kids are spread throughout the plane, you only get to be annoyed by one or two, if any! If people are willing to pay extra for child-free flights, why don't they just upgrade themselves to business or first class? If they want to be cheap and go cattle class, well, they'll just have to be herded in with the rest of us!

I'm into snore free train rides. It's the bane of my existence in China. All snorers should be put into one compartment where they can keep each other up all night while everyone else sleeps peacefully.

haha, yes, kids are always exciting to everything and would be easily affected by the others especailly when they got some similar experiences. Just need to join their communications and then for a while, they can be as peace as you expected. Please do not break up their topic when they are talking happily and excited.
