Nick Griffith has been involved in the past eight years of Olympic festivities and has the pins to prove it. Nick should get another pin in his hat for being such a good sport. "I'm not a style icon", he told us when we first approached him to be featured in Fashionista. And although this may be true, Nick has more pins than anyone we've ever met, and this definitely makes him worthy of some fashion-attention. As accessories go, pins are often overlooked or only thought of as the "flair" that servers at TGIF so proudly flaunt. Interestingly Nick doesn't actually 'wear' his pins but has them attached to a lanyard or ID card holder during the Olympics. This is a great networking device. "Random people often see the pins and come up to me offering to trade. I've met people from all over the world that way, even athletes." Of the hundreds of pins collected since the 2000 Sydney games, his favorite is one made by Samsung. It looks like an actual flip-cell phone and the top part rotates just like the real deal. This "holy grail" of the pin world was finally obtained by Nick by trading five other pins for it. He's also particularly proud of a set of five Chinese kites produced by Manulife, an official sponsor of this year's Olympics. Each resembles a traditional kite, and all have moving parts. If you are interested in getting your flair out for the Games, keep an eye out for Olympic sponsors, who often hand them out freely for promotions. Alternatively, you can pick some up at official Olympic memorabilia stores.
