Mo has moves. When you see him tearing up the dance floor, you will be awed. A whirlwind of gyrations in superfly gear, he is impossible to overlook. In fact, these rad moves won him the “Fashionista of the Year” title during last month’s CW Fashionista Party at Scarlett. Mo was born in Shenyang and raised in the States, where he fell in love with dance and music at a young age. “I went through so many phases in my life, and it really shows in the way I dress,” says Mo. “It’s like the music I play—sometimes hip-hop, sometimes house and electro, sometimes just crazy.” His daytime wear includes his finds from the chaotic stalls of Hua Wei Mall in Xidan, including jeans, a fitted T, flip-flops and shades. But at night, you will see him dressed to the nines in Prada, Versace and Salvatore Ferragamo. Like any true Fashionista, he might be tempted to forego rent for a “bad-ass Cavalli jacket.” He admits he often has to restrain himself from entering his favorite stores like Zara at Solana. He started his Beijing life as a club promoter and although he still throws some of the best parties in the city, his new passion is DJing. He describes his genre of music as the “sound of sex” and combines all types of music that “get the ladies feeling hot and sexy on the dance floor.” This self-made man and Beijing-made Fashionista leaves us with advice both simple and profound: “If you find a piece of clothing that makes you feel comfortable, stylish and sexy, then that’s what you should wear! Who cares what other people think!”
