LinLin is like a red-hot candy nugget: tiny, full of spice and leaves a punch of an impression. Looking at her perfectly heart-shaped face, shiny bob and over-rouged cheeks, I became enamored of this living China doll. Her intense energy and creative spirit combine with a wicked sense of style to make LinLin a fashion force to be reckoned with. Born in Guangzhou China, LinLin lived in London for 11 years before moving back to China in ‘06. She co-founded the creative agency Jellymon/JMGS in Shanghai and Beijing and also writes for various global trend sites on topics ranging from street fashion to fine art. When it comes to her own wardrobe, LinLin has a closet full of unusual, fashion-forward pieces that set her apart and make her painfully hip. “I happily suffer for beauty, darling,” LinLin coyly tells me. Shoes are a big part of this petite mistress of cool’s wardrobe. “I have about 60 pairs here in Beijing. I go to Marni at China World to check out their high heels, and I have lots of trainers, most of which are Nike Airmax series—old school, bright and colorful. If you’re lucky, you might find a pair at the Nike Store.” LinLin is a big fan of the American Apparel in Sanlitun, as well. “Bright and neon short shorts and bikinis are not for the faint hearted!” The grey wool dress in this picture is one of her faves. “I picked up the fabric from the Muxiyuan Fabric Market, went to my regular tailor in Shanghai and handed him my drawings. I have six different colors or patterns in the same style. It’s a classic dress that goes well next to a man in a suit, yet doesn’t sabotage my street-cred!” As for her signature rosy cheeks and bright lips, she credits The Place’s MAC store makeup for their highly pigmented products. “Their Dollymix blush is my must-have,” she tells us. A girl who burns the candle at both ends, LinLin eats like a sinner, grins like a cat, wanders around like she has eight legs and looks fabulous every step of the way.
