MVP: Chris Verrill | Beijing Sport and Social Club
Balls and Brew
Why volleyball? Why "sport" and "social"?
We play volleyball because it's a fun group sport. You don't have to be too good at it to have fun. If you don't spill your beer too much, then you are a winner! The "social" counts way more than the "sports." At this point we play at Chaoyang Community College once a month and then go to a local dive restaurant for dinner and RMB3 Qingdao's. We just got started last month, so we haven't spilled too much beer yet!
If it's all about the social, why not skip the ball game and just go right to the beer?
Maybe we should just skip the games and go right to the beer! Then we could change our name to Beijing Social and Social Club. Except the volleyball provides an excuse for the drinking. And we all need an excuse, I think.
What is the goal of the club? How do you see the club's future?
Our goal is to make friends, meet new people, and get completely hammered with them. The future is just hoping we wake up in the morning and know the name of the person we are next to. The next sports we will add to our infamous beer-volleyball repertoire are cat juggling and midget tossing.
