Yoga Gets Hotter
What kind of yoga classes are offered at Om Shanti? We teach Astanga, vinyasa flow, hot vinyasa flow, as well as moksha levels one and two. All of these have different temperatures, different styles of teaching and are meant for different levels. What’s so hot about hot yoga? Not only is it practiced at our studio in 37 degree heat, but it’s also a great way to exercise and a great way to detox your body. When and why did you start studying yoga? I started four years ago because I was a professional dancer. I needed to keep my body limber during the summers when training stopped. Then I actually decided to quit dancing and just make yoga my life and my career. Wow! Yeah, yoga is really cool if hits you hard enough. Do you think interest in yoga is increasing a lot in China? I don’t think people quite have a belief or understanding of the benefits of yoga, yet, but it’s only going to grow in our world. I took your class and was sore for days afterwards - if I kept it up, though, what could I expect? You could expect increased flexibility; you would be able to better regulate your moods; your sleep cycles would get better. Yoga can also be good for blood circulation. It’s good especially for people under high stress. All that? But what if I’m not very flexible? Often people believe that flexibility is of the utmost importance and think that without it you can’t practice yoga, but actually flexibility is the least important thing. What you need is the ability to let go, and to come in with an open mind and an open heart.
