MVP: Marco Huang | Burton Qiaobo Mellow Park designer
Keeping Cool
How did you start snowboarding? I was working in Shanghai, but then I got fired. After that, I just thought I should do something different for a change, so I went snowboarding for a weekend with my current boss. We were riding together all winter, and at the end of the season he asked if I wanted to work with him, organizing events. And I heard you now board on the Quiksilver team? I was in the first group of snowboarders in China, so I was pretty lucky to get hooked up with Quiksilver. When I started, I competed a little bit, but now it's more promoting the brand, photo shooting. So what kind of activities are you organizing for the opening of the Burton Qiaobo Mellow Park indoor park? We'll do a jam session, where all the snowboarders come and show off what they can do. Burton will also be displaying their new gear. And what cool features can we look forward to? We’re going to have two jumps, and the rest you'll have to see on opening day. But what’s the appeal of snowboarding in the summer? Beijing in the summer is like 40 degrees, so when you go and shred some snow, even if it’s not real, it’s cool. It also means that snowboarders can practice during the summer. Most snowboarders have nothing to do in the summer, so they get very lazy and bored. And where do you like to snowboard in the winter? Nanshan is my main park and the best park in China. Austria and Switzerland are pretty sick since there are real mountains and real snow, but in Beijing most of my time is spent at Nanshan.
