MVP: Piers Touzel | MOB (Mountain bikers Of Beijing)

MOB Mentality

What does the MOB do? We go out mountain biking every weekend, we generally meet on a Sunday morning and head out of town somewhere around Beijing and do a full day's riding. And are there any other sort of activities? The winter gets a little bit too cold to ride right through so there's some skiing and snowboarding trips organized as well. We've also done international trips to Thailand, Vietnam, and Lebanon, and other places. What's the mountain biking like in Lebanon? Fantastic, actually. You can go biking in the morning, skiing in the afternoon, and swimming in the evening in the Med. Do I have to be in terrific shape to join the MOB? Certainly makes it easier, but there's always a loop for the hardcore riders and a loop that's also a shorter ride, maybe on paved road instead of on dirt roads for beginners. Do you really have to be hardcore to join up with the MOBsters? No no no, not at all. There's people who end up walking half the ride as well some days. When we think "mob," we think of an unruly group coming to burn our house down. Is the MOB like that? I don't think we've actually burned down anyone's house, but there's always next week.

Details: For more info on the MOB's weekly unruliness, check out their listing on CW's website, or head to [http://groups.google.com/group/beijingmob]
