How did you get started diving? I actually wanted to dive from the time I was 3 because I used to watch Jacques Cousteau on television. At that time you couldn’t dive until you were 12, but I looked big, so when I was 10, we told them I was 12 and I took my first course and got certified. So what about people who don't have any diving experience? We can take anybody, from someone who has never dived before, and have them petting a shark in the aquarium the same day. We also run expeditions. We took a group to Mongolia last year for the first exploration of one of the largest lakes in Central Asia. I read about that! Did you really see the Loch Ness Monster of Mongolia? No, I mean, the sonar saw something. Nobody in the group saw anything like that, but the average fish that we saw was four or five feet long. Isn’t it too cold in the winter for that kind of excursion? When it's cold out and people can’t get away, we’re happy to get them into the tank at the Blue Zoo. When it gets more temperate, then we can go to more interesting places. Like where? On July 6th we're going out to the underwater Great Wall. We’re not the first, but to have a chance to dive on it is very unique. What are your other favorite places to dive? My diving interests now all focus on exploration type diving and cold water is really where there’s more to be found. Mongolia was great. A place like Lake Baikal in Siberia is a place I’d like to go back to, but there are just too many places on the Chinese coast and within China that haven’t been dived.
