You’re competing in the Redbull Nanshan Open. Tell us about that competition. It’s in two parts. The first is a qualifying competition for Chinese riders. About 50 or 60 snowboarders should come out and the top three will go on to the Nanshan Open which is a four star TTR snowboarding competition.

Last year you came in top five and just missed qualifying for Nanshan. We’ve heard that you have a good chance this year. What do you think? I’ve been practicing a lot over the summer at Qiaobo and I think there’s been some improvement, I think I have some hope of winning. I can do moves now that I couldn’t do last year. But I was also injured in October and still can’t go full out. I’m a little worried about that. S

So what will you be judged on? The difficulty of my moves and my style. How would you describe your style? I’m more inclined to go on the rails or boxes but lately I’ve been working on kickers, or jumps.

You’ve been on the Quiksilver team since 2006. When did you start snowboarding? I started in 2005 when I went with a friend to Nanshan. Right away, I loved it. Is that normal for sponsored boarders to only have one year’s experience before going pro? I think they had me come on because I showed fast improvement and because I work hard.

This is the seventh year of the Nanshan Open and you mentioned that it should be even bigger this year. How big is snowboarding getting in China? The best known sports in China are basketball, soccer and swimming. Snowboarding and skiing are near the bottom. Even though the community is getting larger, throughout the country it’s still very unknown.

Last question, what does the name Xfox mean? I use this name because I look like a fox. The X stands for exteme.
