NEW BARS: Red House | Nanluo Guxiang
Red House Over There
Walking into Red House, one thinks he has found the perfect spot for an intimate, late night drink on the capital’s trendiest hutong. With its dark wood and polished glass, the décor is minimal yet sophisticated. Eight elevated units with comfortable white couches and hard wood tables give drinkers a taste of VIP exceptionality. The drink menu is extensive, with four pages of foreign wines (from ¥260), coffees (from ¥18) and of course a selection of cocktails, beers and bottle service. The Electric Ice Tea (¥48) is a particularly interesting remix of the classic Long Island. The beer selection covers only the basics, beginning with Qingdaos (¥20) and ending with Heinekens (¥25). What Red House is missing in beer, it more than makes up for with its well mixed drinks and tasteful wine selection. These cannot, however, excuse the damage done by playing a mix of Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears and, oddly enough, Metallica. Fortunately, the volume level is as tasteful and subtle as its décor.
