NEW EATS: Grams (Cafés) | Jianguomen

Swiss Bliss
We’ve always wondered what exactly “Swiss cuisine” entailed, and though Grams Swiss Gourmet Bakery & Café’s extensive menu doesn’t give many answers, it is tasty. The bakery offers the most distinctly Swiss fare, with imports like Hiestand pastries and Mövenpick ice cream (one scoop ¥25; two scoops ¥48). We sat in Grams’ brightly lit and stylishly furnished café area, and, with the help of the exceedingly eager staff, decided to try the watermelon and lychee ice blend (¥25), a refreshing burst of summer sweetness right from the first sip. The pan-fry fish cakes (¥28) were a bit oily, but the ham, mushroom and peach pizza (¥48/9”, ¥63/12”) won us back over with its ample cheese and unique fruit twist. The grilled salmon steak (¥68) was fairly standard, but the seafood spaghetti (¥33), impressed with its rich creamy sauce and generous serving of prawns. While its dishes may not be truly Swiss, Grams is still worth a try.
