Can you tell us a bit about Beijing United’s PINK campaign?
Beijing United Family Hospitals are aiming to help raise awareness and educate the women of China about the importance of breast cancer prevention.
Is breast cancer a major concern in China?
Breast cancer is on the rise in China and is a major concern around the world. In Beijing, there has been a 23 percent increase of breast cancer cases over the last 10 years. One of the biggest issues is that there is not enough awareness in the Chinese community about the importance of prevention and regular screenings. It is recommended by the American Cancer Society that women over age 40 should receive annual breast cancer screenings.
Who can take part in the PINK campaign?
We encourage everyone to participate. You can take part by simply spreading the word or by organizing your own breast cancer awareness event. You can also help by nominating an under-served woman to receive a screening on the United PINK Campaign’s website by September 22 or by getting a mammogram at Beijing United Family Hospital during the month of October.
How many women do you expect to screen?
We aim to give 100 charitable screenings during the campaign at our hospital with help from the international community.
Is this the first time Beijing has gone PINK?
This is the first time we have launched the United PINK Campaign and hope to continue this in the future. If you could send a message to women in Beijing about breast cancer, what would it be? Live, love and laugh! Get screened regularly and stay healthy both mentally and physically.
