My Peeps: Paul Eldon | International Festival Chorus

Glee Club

Who is the IFC? We’re a community group of amateur singers all of whom were auditioned and who live, work and study in Beijing. Does China have any choral tradition? How does it compare to what IFC does? There is a recent choral tradition in China, and many of our members have joined us after experiencing other choral societies in Beijing. The IFC is different in that we follow the European festival chorus tradition of rehearsing, which puts greater emphasis on self-learning. So what sort of skill level do I have to have to join the IFC? If I'm not there yet, how could I get there? We do require that our members have some musical training. There are some other, smaller community groups in Beijing where people can get experience singing in a choir, or they can take classes with the Central Conservatory of Music. We asked the Beijing Cricket Club, now we're asking you: do choir boys get the girls? You asked the Beijing Cricket Club whether choir boys get the girls? Put it this way - we have had two marriages, two children and more than a few relationships develop from within the choir.

Details: The IFC performs three large concerts a year, including their signature Christmas performance of Handel's “Messiah”. See their website at http://www.beijingifc.org for more info or to hear some of their performances.
