All About the Eggs
Chaoyang Park | Chef Too
Eggs Benedict hails from late 19th century New York, when socialite, stockbroker and very particular dinner-orderer Lemuel Benedict asked the maitre de at the Waldorf for buttered toast, bacon and a jar of hollandaise. Chef Too pays tribute to the city’s brunch staple by serving three variations of the dish. The charming eatery puts poached eggs and a thick cut of Gammon ham atop a buttered English muffin (¥98). Basil hollandaise tops it all off. Seafood options come with pronounced smoked salmon instead of ham (¥128) or crabcakes (not on the menu). Try the regular (¥38) or wasabi bloody Mary (¥38) .

Sanlitun | Village Cafe
The open-air lobby restaurant of the Opposite House feels like an upscale New York brunch spot. Village upgrades eggs Benedict by swapping the English muffin for a fresh bagel (baked daily) and taking the extra precaution of using only organic eggs and making the hollandaise sauce fresh each day (the sauce crawls with bacteria if unfresh). Unlike at Chef Too, the ham comes in thin, savory slices. The eggs are poached until egg yolks are half-cooked but still gloriously runny. Village wins our pick for best egg’s Benedict. But skip on the muffin assortment and order a juice instead of the breakfast martini (¥70), which was refreshing but weak.

Chaoyang Park | All-Star Bar & Restaurant
The eggs benedict (¥55) here come two to an order, accompanied by a side of crispy hash browns. Served atop two perfectly fluffy homemade English muffins with savory pork bacon, the addition of creamy spinach to this open-faced breakfast sandwich adds that extra something special. The hollandaise sauce swirled over the eggs is also made in-house, and creamily complements without overwhelming. The best part? You can order them anytime the kitchen is open, so if you’re craving breakfast at suppertime (or pre-Bling) you’re in luck.
