WEEKENDER: Hyatt Regency Jingjin City | Tianjin
Resort on the Range
Historically, Beijing has lacked genuine five-star resorts in the suburbs (despite what the people at The Commune tell you). Luckily all that has changed with the Hyatt Regency Jingjin's opening late last year. They’ve been steadily unfolding their 1,000 room resort ever since and by the end of September their highly-anticipated hot springs will be fully operational.
Halfway between Tianjin and Beijing is an odd place for a Hyatt resort, especially one that looks suspiciously like the Alhambra in Spain. Fortunately, the interior, decked in the understated elegance typical of Hyatt property, is a more subdued matter. It’s the anchor of a massive new development, a brand new city, really, owned by the second richest man in China. It consists of villas, golf courses, riding stables and eventually a yacht club. When the hot springs come online, the Hyatt Jingjin will be cemented as a premier relaxation destination a stone’s throw from town.
The rooms have showers pumping naturally-heated spring waters up from the depths and suites feature balconies that make serene spots for room service breakfast. In the evening, though, be sure to check out The Glass House restaurant, a fantastic open air restaurant featuring unique dining stations and made-to-order international cuisine. The Chinese restaurant, housed in a replica hutong, is not a bad second option.
There are plenty of sports to keep you occupied. The golf course was designed by Vijay Singh and even if you don’t hit the links, it’s great for a morning bike ride. And with full stables managed by experienced riders, it’s a dream for equestrians.
This fall, get a night in a suite for ¥2,162 (including tax) plus breakfast.
