Sweet Treats

A good dessert wine is heaven in a glass. Dessert wines like icewines, Tokay wines and muscats are all naturally sweet. We don’t buy dessert wines often, maybe because of a lack of occasion or because we’re not sure exactly to enjoy them. Sweet wines can pair well with food. However, just make sure that the wine is sweeter than the food and not the other way around. Berries and fresh fruit, cheese, dark chocolate and other semi-sweet desserts often work better than ice cream. Usually a small glass per person is enough. Many sweet wines come in half bottles and one 375ml bottle is be enough for six to share. Remember, quality counts more than quantity with these wines. Mount Langi ‘Passito’ Riesling, 2004 is rich and concentrated with layers of citrus and minerals, giving a long finish. This wine pairs well with Boston cheesecake or a cheese and fruit board. Available from The Wine Republic (RMB299).
