Great atmosphere, the courtyard and the hutongs outside are pretty awesome. Also, the best beers in town imo. It's a must see. You will love it.

I have been to this Great Leap at least 3-4 times and each time I left happy. The beer is best in town and each time I've been there I shot the shit with the bartender. I read on the other comments that bartenders there either don't like talking or are pretentious but my visit is half way between the extremes. They talked but maybe weren't completely into it. but that's fine, The beer is great, not too expensive (especially by US standards) and the bartenders know their stuff. Great to talk and find out how the bartenders got to be a bartender in China. Interesting each time. Plus they got Pizza + on Wed..... just go already.

Checked out the original GLB last night--the interior has been completely renovated--you won't recognize it. It's now got booths reminiscent of the Gongti location plus a few other stand up tables. It feels about ten times bigger than the previous space. New tap syste, new bar counter. Same great brews of course. This is a huge improvement to an already excellent place. Look for GLB to a hutong staple for many years to come.

Went there for St. Patrick's day and took the open bar deal (200RMB) which is quite expensive. However, we made good use of it since we started in the morning. The beer was mainly alright, with some weird tasting ones (chocolate) and some more delicious. The people hanging out there were fun. However, this bar is a good choice for summer not for cold winter days since you don't really want to sit inside.

First thought when walking into the courtyard is wow, this place is awesome -- they've got the whole courtyard, candles lit, and some twenty tables full of people enjoying themselves. Walked into the bar area to order some drinks, and the experience sort of went downhill from there. The people behind the bar were kinda pretentious when I asked any questions. They didn't really want to shoot the shit with me, which was a bit of a bummer because I like talking to bartenders. That aside, they didn't have three of the beers I went there to try. Ended up with their mocha stout which just wasn't my favorite. I didn't finish it. I had the prosper later and that one went down smoothly. I definitely appreciate the outdoor space, though that night it seemed to attract a certain douchey clientele. Maybe it was just that night. All in all, just okay for me.

Apart from a bunch of idiots who thought that pulling stupid jokes on new years night was a load of fun, the bar was awesome. The vein of cowardly arshole that seems to run through minority of the clientelle otherwise stained the staff and place.

Hit up the Great Leap three times over the holiday. Beer prices have nudged up, but it's still one of the best places in Beijing to spend an evening. It continues to draw a fun, smart people crowd. The new beer on the menu is the Triple and it's outstanding. Im told that they are going to clean out the inside space for the winter season as well as put up tenting and space heaters outside so that the party can really go on here all year long. Easily one of my favorite places in Beijing.

Once you get there (a shout-out to my savvy iPhone-wielding friend), it's hard to leave. The little courtyard is cozy, and, thanks to the binders of menus on hand, you can have a number of places deliver foods including Hutong Pizza and a hot dog place. There's also a chaun'r place not so far away--local, microbrewery beer with chuan'r? What a novel (delicious) idea. Oh and about the beer: the Cinnamon Rock (RMB35) was good, I don't know shit about beer, but the spicy cinnamon flavor seemed to infuse nicely.

I'm a huge fan of Great Leap - great atmosphere, great beer - but good lord it is hard to find. I usually have to be navigated there by a street-savvy fiend or two. Have tried both the oatmeal porter and the pale ale #6; I prefer the porter but both are leagues better than tsingtao. It would be awesome if they could add snacks or something - beer always gives me the munchies.

The siheyuan style brewery is a quaint concept, but service is poor and the IPA is often sold out. Trying to get a refill can be difficult and the owner/operator acts annoyed at any customer inquiries.

Great Leap has an amazing pumpkin brew out (RMB45). Limited run. You do not want to miss it. You can also order in food from the corner jiachang cai place. The only drawback is that this place is cold in the winter. Other than that, it's perfect.

Great Leap Brewing very well may be the start of a major revolution in Beijing beer. The scale is small right now, but they are already producing solid brew. If you love beer, you shouldn't miss it.
