XP Club Description

This Di'anmen space is the live music venue people have been calling "the new D-22" since before it even opened. Administered by the forces behind Maybe Mars, China's leading independent record label, XP showcases new experimental and improvisational music from Chinese and visiting musicians. Nightly music events run the genre gamut from noise, electronic, experimental and subterranean frequencies with the odd punk, indie and shoegaze show thrown in. Cover charges vary depending on the event; drinks are cheap, strong and cheerful.

XP is a small live music performance space from the concerns behind local label Maybe Mars, orientated to showcasing new experimental and improvisational music from Chinese and visiting musicians. In addition to the bar and stage, the space also contains a record store with a complete stock of most Beijing and Chinese releases. Music events are nightly, Tuesday to Sunday, with an orientation towards noise, electronic, experimental, and subterranean frequencies, with the odd punk, shoegaze, and indie rock show thrown in for good measure.

There is weekly Tuesday "Zooming Night" -- their platform for avant garde Beijing musicians playing in a full range of noisy genres. Cover charges vary depending on the event. Beers and mixes are cheap, starting from 20-30 rmb.

Can definitely be a bit hit and miss sometimes with the quality of bands, but in a way that doesn't really seem to matter that much. It always feels like a 'proper' music venue; run by and for people who are really into their music. Yugong may have the bigger names, but I always seem to have a better time here.
