Wednesday afternoon, an American tourist was stabbed and killed in a hutong near Dashilan. According to information released last night on Weibo by the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, 62-year-old Howard Thomas Mills was attacked by a 35-year-old man from Heilongjiang Province who had previously been arrested on robbery charges.
Global Times confirmed with Beijing Emergency Medical Center that the man was pronounced dead at the scene. They also interviewed a nearby resident who said she didn't see the attack but did see the police apprehend the suspect near Liulichang.
A local Ohio news station has identified Mills as a resident of Indian Hill, a small community just outside of Cincinnati. They say he was in Beijing with his wife on a business trip.
