Description

Da Dong's duck is as meltingly succulent as any; it claims to be lower in calories, but it sure doesn't taste like it. We know it's tough, but don't stuff yourself on the main event and overlook other dishes—the fried oysters in Sichuan pepper-salt are a must.

A great restaurant with a great menu. But seriously, the duck sucks. For those who do not care much about calories, Quanjude tastes so much better (and much much much more oily). If I had to rate the restaurant based on its signature dish (i.e. the duck), I would give it a 1. But their beef with salt and lemon is amazing, a must-try for any beef lover.

Pleasantly surprised with all these new additions to the traditional menu. I highly recommend the honeyed pecan nuts with tomatoes dish, king scallops and a lobster dish that came served with a claw and meat pressed into noodle form. The duck as always, was flawless and palatable.

Great decor, and the service was good (except for the one woman who had her arms crossed at the reservations/welcome desk), and all the dishes were great, but I have to say that the duck wasn't that amazing, and that I was more impressed by the non-kou ya dishes. If you have a sweet tooth, try the apple wrapped in candy - it's a very interesting experience and tasty, but really sweet. I've heard from many different people that the other Da Dong restaurant (the original one) is older, but cheaper and much tastier. Try that place, if you're going to try Da Dong.

Being to a few of the famous duck house in Beijing, this will be the most comfortable place among them (not including those in stars hotel). Interior is nice and the staffs are polite. free drink and the open-view roasting kitchen at the waiting area makes you feel more comfortable while waiting. Very nice roast duck. Tried a few side dish- most of them looks good but taste normal, The owner did well to upgrade themselve to a modern restaurant. Defenately will recomend to friends

I'm sorry to diasgree with the majority of people here, but I didn't have such a great experience at this branch of Da Dong. It was pretty expensive, the food was average (many Chinese restaurants do these same dishes - and better too!), and they didn't allow the chef to cut the duck next to our table - which I wanted our overseas guests to see! On the positive side, the decor was wonderful - and the restaurant is tucked inside a nice courtyard area, which was lovely. We also had a great waitress who was very cheerful and sweet.

Excellent, great presentation of the dishes, an extensive bible of a menu, I'm glad we had friends who ordered for us. I dined here about three weeks ago. We were up in a semi private room, set with four tables, no real atmosphere compared tot he rest of the place, amazingly attentive staff and good company. I’m catching up on comments for the most recent Restaurants I have dined at so, I am not likely doing this place justice, but it is definitely somewhere I will go back to with the family when they come up to Beijing. Well done to the team at Da Dong.

Over four years in Beijing I must have had Beijing roast duck dozens of times. But the dining experience at the Nanxincang location of the Da Dong chain left me feeling like someone who had eaten roast duck for the very first time... Great duck, interesting and delicious side dishes, good service, nice ambiance and lovely wine. like the "show" factor too where you can see the ducks being roasted and the chefs skillfully cutting the duck at your table. The "menu" is so thick and has beautiful photographs, it looks more like a cook book. Can't wait to go back.

Average restaurant for Beijing Duck among all Beijing restaurants serving this traditional dish. Quite expensive. Duck is the same like in other restaurants around TuanJieHu, for example. Best duck I've tried was in Shenyang city. Beijing Duck in Beijing is too skinny and dry.

went there twice and both were pleasant experience. especially for my stomach. really good beijing duck. after eating beijing duck 2 and half years ago in one of the oldest and famous beijing duck restaurant in town, i thought that i would never want to eat beijing duck again. but this restaurant has different way to make it. it tastes so good. the skin is crisp. the sauce tastes good too. awesome. nice interior. nice service too. the second time i went here, i took a family of a friend from indonesia to eat here and they loved it. other dishes besides beijing duck were great. i forgot what the name of those dishes but i remember one, i tried the sea cucumber and i love it so much. really tasty. expensive but worth the money. not a place for regular visit, but definitely will come back again.

Went there during my recent trip to the capital, as recommended, went to Da Dong for dinner. Eventhough there was a long queue, some 50+ numbers before our table was called up, but you can sit by the window and watch the ducks being shoved into the ovens before your eyes. Free drinks are available whilst you wait, but would recommend sticking to just a tipple or so, otherwise you're left with no appetite for the ducklings! Aside from the ducks other dishes are well prepared and delicious! Would go back again next time round! For sure!

A place we always seem to go when we have overseas visitors. Been there three times in six months, however the supposedly 'lower calorie' duck leaves a bit cold. The accompaniments are bland (sauce) and the vegetable is too finely sliced and not as tasty as would I like. Also the wrapping just doesn't seem as well prepared as some I have enjoyed. I have had much better in Indonesia and Australia. The place is nicely decorated however the seating is cramped and can be a bit annoying if you are to view this as specialist 'fine dining'. I also find the staff hurried and matter of fact. Some of the non duck dishes are quite nice. I don't really think I will go back again.

I agree with the above that Da Dong's roast duck is really something. Other dishes are quite interesting too... though i expected the dishes to be more Chinese-looking (at least in terms of the way it looks on the plate) Apparently they're going modern/fusion (?) I have a feeling they focus too much on the look than the taste... but oh well... I guess Da Dong is a must-try if you're in Beijing.

oh my god, delicious! Best Beijing Duck in town. The staff are so friendly! Can't wait to take all my friends and explain that the Duck doesn't have to be fatty! There is quite a fair amount of meat and very very very little oil/fat! amazing.

They currently are champs of the Beijing duck world. Why? because they make a great duck (RMB179 for the best duck in the house) and have excellent dishes to complement. Sit downstairs in the lively dining room or find a hideaway upstairs if you're after some quiet conversation.
