Description

This DJ space and cheap bar is the newest import from Shanghai to hit the Gulou scene. With a relaxed attitude and a fondness for getting messy on the dance floor, Dada opens itself up to local talent in its Beijing incarnation and offers some of the hottest dance parties with the coolest people in the city.

It seems to be a thing that every big night in Beijing ends at Dada even though each time, you find yourself staggering out to discover that the sun has risen, you've lost your friends and somehow all your money is gone. The ultimate walk of shame as you, a drunk and slurry mess, walk the streets with fresh-faced locals on their way to work, or somewhere else of importance. The stories that are made will be often retold, with no one really sure what quite happened. Wait till next weekend. Repeat.

Go to temple for the drinks and then pop into Dada for the dancing. The dance floor is usually a good time. It's a different but good experience compared to the bigger "clubs". Worth checking out for sure.

Nice and chilled spot, drinks need a lot of work. I dig their monday movie series and the lack of pretense, a common problem in places that reach their level of fame. That said, i'm knocking off 1 star as punishment for serving a manhattan on rocks.. there is no excuse for that faux pas. The G&T is fine enough, especially for the price but you're gonna need a slew of them to feel anything... at least, it didnt smell like gasoline.

Very hit or miss. Some nights here are super-fun ragers with a great crowd and a Chinese DJ unironically but somehow appropriately playing "Who Let the Dogs Out," but others are lethargic nights with a DJ lost in his own very loud D&B world while a few bros play foosball in the corner. Drinks are cheap but also taste cheap.

I'm going to second that. The parties last weekend were outstanding. Very good vibes. Thank god I never have to go school bar again. Great work by the dada team.

Finally a Beijing club that feels like Beijing. This is as far away from Gongti as it gets. Great system. Stellar music. Cheap yet strong drinks. And extraordinary bookings: Pinch, Doshy and DJ Spooky all in the opening weeks! Most importantly - it's the only space in Beijing that works well as both a club on weekends and a bar during the week. Dada is a game changer.

@amidanruo - we shake our manhattans because they TASTE better that way. They look better too. Martini's -- look at the menu, you choose gin or vodka -- although anyone with real taste would surely choose vodka ;)

the chinglish makes baijiu taste good, the wall art is tastefully tacky (mean that in a good way) and even though they shake their manhattans and INSIST on making their martinis with vodka (sacrilege), i'm a big fan of both the original shanghai dada and this neat little beijing version. they're also bringing pinch and kode9 over, which is just great.

Solid, but so far nothing to get too excited about. I paid my first visit to Dada on Saturday night. Swag Sounds was spinning. The place was pretty empty at around midnight. Design is great with the bar cut by the wall serving both sides equally well. Unfinished concrete walls make the right atmsphere. Foosball table is a big hit. I just don't know what will be the tipping point for this bar. Better set up for the School Bar DJ set? Shanghai DJs bringing wobblecore hip pop? It's not got a patch on the old White Rabbit, but it is the only club west of the Dong Er Huan. It's a cool space, a great addition, a welcome addition. Just not sure where it is going.

They're still in pre-opening but already putting on a great show & the bar service is very together, probably because they know what they're doing (Dada Shanghai). It's quite well designed with an industrial feel, divided (by a central bar) into a lounge space and a dance DJ dance floor area -- reminiscent of the best days of Punk. I'm not usually an audio snob here in the 'jing, but the quality of the sound system really stands out. It held up to bass-heavy dance tracks from the (stellar!) Danish group Linkoban, and some classic rock spun by someone I assume is the house DJ. If Dada can keep this up... I will be there every weekend.
