Widely recognized for serving some of the city's best roast duck, this stylish restaurant is extremely popular among both locals and expats. Side dishes also stand out, and seasonal recommendations from the chefs change every two months. This is also a top spot for dim sum, which is discounted 50 percent at lunchtime.

Gorgeous restaurant and delicious food. I regularly take guests here and recommend it to anyone passing through. Best duck in town and other dishes are really tasty too. Highly recommend

While the food at Duck de Chine was good the service was terrible. The waitress was rude from start to finish and completely ruined the whole evening with her behaviour. An example of this would be the look she gave when one of our party asked for a glass of water, as if we were not spending enough money at this snobby restaurant. I'm afraid to say the food was not good enough for me to ever go back and put up with such poor service that left me feeling angry and upset rather than full and satisfied.

Love the atmosphere and concept of Duck de Chine, but their service leaves a lot to be desired…as do their non-duck dishes. Other than the chefs that prepare the duck table-side, though, the staff at DDC are rude and just not at all gracious. I've come various times over the years and this aspect has never changed. I understand why people still come, though, it's the most "impressive and approachable" and tastefully decorated of Beijings Peking Duck restaurants…and also the most recommended by hotels. I wish they had other dishes that were able to make me want to go other than the duck, though.

One of the best Duck i ever had, not fad at all, tender and with a strong taste! This very high end Beijing Duck restaurant is great. Very good location as well, hidden and quiet but near the Sanlitun area.

Any Beijing resident entertaining visitors need look no further for the classy 'Peking Duck' experience. Amidst the classy dimly lit surroundings, the serving of Beijing's iconic dish is handled with enough pomp and circumstance to send even the most jaded traveler home happy. It might be a little on the pricey side, but the elaborate ceremony of the carving and the gong that heralds the duck's arrival all help make you feel you're doing it right. Did I mention the Duck was absolutely delicious? Whenever friends and family are in Beijing this is something of an essential stop.

As we know some people do have bad luck sometimes with restaurants or bars. I have been lucky with this place, so I will give it a five stars. Great duck, not too dry, not oily; decor is good too. pricy, but good quality and good service.

Nestled away in The Hidden City this is a great place to bring visitors, or for a classy - yet still very uniquely Beijing - night out! The restuarant is tastefully and elegantly designed, with good service, and of course the best part - succulent and delicious duck! Everything was well presented, and at only RMB 180 per head for a party of 8 (including 2 ducks, several accompanying dishes and a cheeky cocktail/glass of wine each), very affordable! Would definitely return - although booking is recomended, as even during the week this place is busy!

I agree with everyone's comments about the decor and atmosphere - just great, one of the better ones in BJ. What I don't understand is the serving size of the Peking Duck. The duck is presented and looks to be the same size as in other Peking Duck restaurants, but when it is served it is half the usual size. The duck tastes very good but it irritates me that after paying more than other restaurants I get dramatically less duck served. Maybe half the duck is held back by the chef for the staff or maybe it is used in another dish but I have experienced this every time I have eaten here.

As you might expect, the decor is upscale, if rather pretentious. We waited for 30 minutes to be seated, ordered a bottle of wine and looked at the rest of the menu. After opening the wine, our waitress announced they were out of duck. At a duck restaurant? Amateur hour begins. The menu was exciting but the dishes that arrived were uninspiring. The house special five-spice chicken and mixed vegetables were greasy and flavorless. The scallops were undercooked. The first dish I ordered never came. I reminded the waitress, but to no avail. The ambiance is certainly impressive, but the service and food are terrible. Maybe the duck is delicious, I'll never know. Next time I entertain tourists we'll head back to Da Dong.

A place to impress? Yes. Best duck in Beijing? Hmm, I don't think so. It was delicious, but I still prefer Dadong. But I do like their twist in duck sauce. The sauce was really good. What I really enjoyed the most from the night I went there was the ambiance. Very nice, very intimate and relaxing. The e-fu noodles are delicious as well. This was the first time I found e-fu noodles in China even though back home e-fu noodles can be found in every Chinese restaurants. So I was pretty happy to see it in the menu. Some other dishes were pretty delicious as well. But too expensive for the whole experience, me thinks. I feel I'm paying a lot more for the ambiance not for the food itself. But if you're looking for new Beijing duck experience other than the big names in town OR looking for a place to impress your guest(s), you should consider this restaurant.

Last visit: 11 Mar 2010 Environment: 5 stars Food: 5 stars, especially the roast duck which is much better than Dadong and Quanjude restaurants Service: 5 stars Price: a bit expensive but worth to try Location: 4 stars - over hidden, difficult to find and need to call up the restaurant to find out the exact location in detail. It is an excellent place to bring customers/ friends for a good meal. Will definitely go there again.

wheras the restaurant itself is very nice, for gods sake: this was the LAST time I rely on a map from this website. The location shown in the popup window is a few kilometers(!) off, and please telll me how I am supposed to leave a Beijing Duck place with a bill from 200 to 299 for a couple if the duck is already 220 RMB, and the cheapest glass of wine is 60 RMB... I suppose we can share the glass... Don't get me wrong, the food was delicious, the ambience perfect and I'll probably go there again. We walked out much more in the pricerange of 250 per person though! So, two thumbs up for the restaurant, two thumbs down for cityweekend and its totally inaccurate description!

In the past 3 years, I’ve been to many of the city’s top duck restaurants, but when a friend of a friend from high school came into town for only one day, I was eager to impress them with one of the city’s newest additions to the list of top duck restaurants: I introduced them to Duck de Chine, located in the factory-chic setting of 1949. The setting was elegant, refined and upscale and the menu brings together recipes from both Chinese and French cuisine. Within the restaurant, you feel like you could be anywhere in the world. The menu was extensive, the food was delicious and beautifully presented, and the duck was superb with the highlight of the experience being the special duck plum sauce with swirls of sesame and peanut sauce topped with roasted garlic. Brilliant. Another highlight of the evening was the Australian Lobster with E-Fu noodles and the Pan-Fried Beef Tenderloin. Overall: A place to impress visitors or business clients, the interior is exquisite and I’m sold by their special duck sauce (plum sauce with swirls of peanut and sesame sauce topped with roasted garlic). My mouth waters just thinking about it. Great food, even better ambiance, so-so service, and expect to pay a pretty penny. I agree with the other reviewer in that the service is a "hit or miss". Sometimes, you get a friendly waitress who smiles and takes care of your table very well, sometimes they just look at you without any expression. Also, on my recent visit, the waitress seemed reluctant to serve someone in our party hot water, and they finally did 15 minutes after everybody else on the table who ordered tea or soda had their drinks. It almost seems as if they have been trainted to be purposely slow and reluctant when serving free water to 'encourage' you to order tea?

My favorite duck restaurant. Used to enjoy going to Dadong quite often, but Duck de Chine's overall dining experience is much more comfortable and refined. The interior is well designed and the lighting sets a very comfortable mood. The duck is crispy with slight oil, but most importantly the addition of peanut/sesame sauce in the duck sauce (tian mian jiang) really sets it apart. My only gripe is that they charge quite a bit for tea, 30-40 per person or 80+ for a pot, depending on what type of tea you prefer. Overall, a nice duck restaurant to impress visitors.

Great duck in a very classy environment. The duck goes head to head with Dadong but the environment crushes Dadong. It's relaxed, upscale, quiet. The service is hit and miss. Sat there for 10 minutes without water or anybody taking an order. That being said, my tea was replenished almost at exactly the right moment every time.

Tried Duck de Chine this weekend with some out of town guests. Tucked away behind the Pacific Park Century in the Hidden Complex, DDC ranks as one of the best, and possibly most expensive ducks in Beijing. As soon as you enter the impressive front door, you are lured by the sweet smell of roasting wood--you really know they are making duck the right way (shame on all you electric oven duck restaurants!). We ordered a whole duck, duck tacos, eggplant, spinach and fried rice. The first thing they bring to the table is fixings for the sauce. Everyone has an individual bowl for plum sauce, but then the servers drizzled sesame and peanut sauce, swirled the bowl to create a beautiful kaleidoscope of color and topped it with roasted garlic. It is very impressive. The duck was very good and crowned with the best duck skin I've ever had. The duck tacos were interesting...served with plum sauce, chopped iceberg and crispy mini shells and the duck filling was diced and tossed with some scallions, mushrooms and peppers. I was tasty, but not something I'd need to order again. The rest of the meal was good, but wouldn't strike me as memorable. Including a 350RMB bottle of wine, the meal came out to 950RMB. I'm glad to have the experience, but I think there are better quality and value ducks to be had in Beijing.

With a lovely ambiance and one of the best Peking ducks in town, this is definitely my go-to place for entertaining business associates or clients from out of town. However, they really need to improve and expand on the rest of the menu, which is mediocre at best both in terms of selection and quality.

Great ambience, excellent service and a nice touch of ornate porcelain ducks sitting on your table as decorations. Unfortunately, the peking duck didn't quite live up to expectations. It was disappointingly oily, and its skin semi-crisp. The sauce however was sweet and sharp, and I loved the novel experience of mixing the other condiments in to find that perfect taste for my own palate.

The duck—we refer to it as ‘The Noble Bird’—has long featured in both Chinese and French cuisines. In Duck de Chine, we bring you some of the best loved recipes from these two giants of culinary culture. Featuring China’s first Bollinger Champagne bar.
