The pizza was just normal.Taste was fine. The prices it asks for has the ambience there are services issues at the place. The servers were need to be called though it wasnt so bussy. I find the prices quite high for the food offered.

Pretty alright Italian food. Food is not as good as Da Marco in Shanghai by a long shot, but it's not bad for Beijing standards. US$ 13 (RMB 80) for one can of made in China Coca Cola is absolutely outrageous though. I don't remember seeing a can of coke this expensive anywhere in the world before. Also service needs to improve a lot. It's kind of local jiaozi restaurant style - not good for a date! On the door it took long time to find someone to get a table. Then he was very agitated saying they shut down in an hour for an afternoon sleep. While we were eating an ayi was dry moping around our table! If you're in the neighbourhood and are flush with cash maybe worth a visit, but don't expect to impress a date with this place.

Everything here is delicious, except for this crab and shrimp appetizer I once ordered that had CANNED CRAB in it. No crab is better than canned crab. They forgot the porcini mushrooms in the pizza, and the chef was so kind and apologetic that he not only gave us another full pizza for free (as expected), but he also gave us the dessert sampler gratis as well. Waitstaff is among the most courteous I've encountered in Beijing.

I am really surprised to read a bunch of extremely positive comments about this restaurant. However, my experience was diametrically opposite as i will explain below. I liked the decoration and i thought it was cozy. The waiters were polite and spoke English well. Be that as it may, the food was average in comparison with other Italian restaurants of Beijing, Shanghai or Hong Kong. We were 4 at the table, (me plus a couple and their son). We ordered some appetizers and i shared the goose liver dish with the couple's son. Few minutes later, both of us had to run to the toilet. To our surprise the toilets belong to the shopping mall, they are dirty and did not have toilet paper. I cannot think of any good restaurant in Beijing with such a dirty toilet and especially with no toilet paper. Luckily, as it is winter time, i had some tissues but this is something you do not expect at a high quality restaurant. Top restaurants in Beijing have luxurious toilets. I had to return to the toilet during the dinner two more times. I guess it might have been that i was unlucky that night with what i ordered, but this is something you do not expect it will happen at a top restaurant. Top restaurants take care of all issues related to their restaurant, but it seems that at La Tavola they do not care if their customers need to go to the toilet. Food poison can happen anywhere, i do not blame them for that. But having a dirty toilet without toilet paper is something unbelievable. For me this was a really disappointing experience. I will certainly not go back. That was a business dinner for me and i had to apologize to my client for having taken him and his family there.

I finally visited this place last night and loved it! I would say the only drawback is that part of the dining room looks out on the Grand Summit building's stairwell area, but the decor is nice, and the seats are extremely comfortable. The restaurant was pretty packed--mostly with an embassy crowd--at 9pm on a Tuesday. The service here is really exceptional. They give you water without you having to ask for it, and refill it regularly, also without you having to ask. Servers also speak English well. The seafood salad, which is best shared, is lightly dressed in a great vinaigrette, and the octopus in it is excellent and very tender. We had both of the risottos, and they were heavenly -- really rich and flavorful and perfectly textured. There were so many other things that looked great on the menu, so I'm looking forward to going back!

Had lunch here this week. The business lunch set had limited choices. Not too many interesting items to choose from. Go for the ala carte if you want something more creative. Food was alright. We ordered the tuna carpaccio and gnocchi. Dessert and coffee were both average. Service was quick even though not too attentive. English speaking waiter was helpful. We had reservation so we were seated by the window overlooking the diplomat compound. That was nice. Don't think we would go here again for lunch. Might consider it for dinner.

finest Italian dining on offer. The mushroom soup was a whole other level and just got smoother and smoother, and the risotto is to die for - sweet, nutty, and amber colors so homey., and the lamb rack was extremely moist, tender, and juicy, it was one of the best lambs we have had. And the pizza is definitely the best in the city, by far. every part is perfectly Napoli made, and even the sauce is simple yet classic

I have to admit, even if I am from Italy, that Tavola is way much better than many restaurants in Italy and definitely the best Italian restaurant in town at quite reasonable prices. The pizza is great and better than 95% of those you can get even in Italy and with the overall menu I was really impressed. Try the fantastic risottos......

We live near by the restaurant and frequently shop at the Grand Summit, that's probably why we went there the very first time right after their opening. If we went back there, it is simply because of the food. I agree with Tingy13, it looks like italian food... well it is italian food! The ambiance is also very good: the warm welcome from the chef is a real pleasure. We have been there only for lunches and we always enjoyed the pasta and main courses. I must say it is a bit pricey but I believe it is the price for quality.

I was there for a wedding party dinner. The food was indeed excellent and the ambiance was terrific. Sitting at the gently curved center table with almost all of the seats filled, it feels good. But halfway thru the meal, the chef walks by and shouts "How's everybody liking the meal? OK!" And just keeps walking. That was so strange and rude. I couldn't believe it. And that's what I'll remember this place for.

Find a taste of Italy at Tavola! Though I am not a native Italian, living in Rome for a part of my life and working in a family owned Italian restaurant has given me the taste buds for find Italian dining. Everything was superb from the ambience, presentation, wine and every last bite of authentic dishes fine-tuned to modern tastes. The Antipasti platter (168 RMB) provides imported Buffalo Mozzerella cheese from Italy! Topped off with rocket, cherry tomatoes and balsamic vinaigarette. Surrounding this centerpiece is thinly sliced Parma, Coppa, Capricciosa and Prosciutto ham. The cream of mushroom soup (48 RMB) is a delectable smooth texture that melts in your mouth. Imported truffle and porcini mushrooms, drizzled with truffle oil and little baked toasts completes this savory soup. I highly recommend the Beef Tenderloin topped with arugula (198 RMB). The sirloin is marinated and cooked to perfection- a juicy medium rare, topped with rocket, shaved Parmesan cheese and drizzled in tuscan oil gives a mouth-watering entree that will arouse all your senses. Pair off your favorite meals with their extensive wine list. The service is quick and efficient with an English-speaking staff. Executive Chef Alberto Alboreggia comes around the tables to make sure everything tastes perfecto! Though the prices are steep to Chinese standards, it is worth it, the 5-star quality service brings the ultimate dining experience. Tavola gives emotional diners the affection they long for in a meal!

Finally went to Tavola after hearing all the good things and we weren't disappointed. The place was packed but strangely wasn't very noisy. The menu offers a great variety from antipasti to primi to secondi so someone could have anything ranging from a RMB170 per head two-course meal to a RMB600 three to four-course feast. All the pasta we ordered were cooked to perfection and the ingredients, such as the full-shell clams for my son and the lobster for me, were amazingly fresh. The smoked beef carpaccio with black truffle had a wonderfully balanced flavor that was helped by the fresh rucola. The lamb shank was beautifully presented but was unfortunately a little bit overcooked. The only disappointment was the pizza which was so soft and soggy that all the toppings slipped off as soon as a slice was picked up. But then full credit to the service team as the manager came to apologize and took it off our bill as soon as we mentioned it to the staff. At the end, the place redeemed itself with three simple but very nice desserts and a cup of very well made double espresso (which unfortunately is not as common as it should be in Beijing.....).

Went to Tavola for the business lunch upon recommendation from a colleague. First impressions of the interior were classy with a modern 'twist'. Had the RMB108 lunch deal with octopus and salad (which was a bit salty), penne with bacon and onion (nice but the pasta wasn't cooked properly) and the chocolate and walnut dessert (no choice of desserts). A nice place...watch out for the RMB60 bottles of still water!

Very nice interior. Very gentle and effective English speaking staff. Very, very good food. Try the chef's special pea soup and try the pizza Regina with smoked mozzarella, you'll get some new taste in your mouth. Too bad the venue is not that special.

What a beautiful restaurant! The food was lovely - I had the sea bass with cherry tomato and eggplant/zuccini - and the pizza's were great too! Thin crust fresh tomato base - we had the selection of desserts which were fantastic too! the lemon sorbet YUM! and the chocolate lava cakey thing we could smell as soon as they brought out of the kitchen... would recommend this restaurant for a date or even an intimate group of friends who can share! The waiter was lovely and helped recommend things, perhaps the only thing a little unnerving was when we sat down the manager stood behind us and peered over our table, then walked away- a friendly introduction would have been nice since we were the only table there...perhaps he was nervous? I really hope the food quality of the 'secondi's' and 'dolce' stays the same forever!
