Description

Sit down for a plate of excellent dapanji (chicken with handmade noodles and vegetables), roast goat or the popular lamb kebabs at this boisterous place. It's overpriced for the fare, but it's still a good place to take visitors for a lively evening. The song and dance routines and beautiful Uigher dancing girls may just get you out of your seat.

I loved my experience here. I've only been twice, but both times were good. The food was tasty, although a little greasy. My friend from Xinjiang tells me it's not totally authentic, but is a pretty good job for being in the middle of Beijing. The meat sticks are especially good, and I enjoyed the chicken with fried mantoa. The restaurant becomes very noisy at 7.30pm, when the entertainment starts. I'm not usually a fan of performances during dinner, but it's a nice novelty once in a while. The traditional xinjiang dances and music are very interesting to watch, but I didn't enjoy the belly dancing so much. Overall, the food was a little pricey, but you get a festive and fun experience with the atmosphere.

I wish I had heeded the advice of other reviews regarding Red Rose. I am all for paying a little more for dinner, but the different dishes have to warrant it. Xinjiang food is always good, but Red Rose does it like any other Xinjiang restaurant in Beijing. There is nothing exceptional to Red Rose in that regard. As for the live music, I didn't know it was going to be more than an hour of performances. The plus side is they have outdoor seating if you want to avoid the loud, indoor clamor.

Acceptable Xinjiang food in a relatively clean environment. You don't really want to go there for the food, but more for the shows (belly dancers and Xinjiang band). However, don't expect to have a conversation with your friends, the place is just too noisy.

Red Rose deserves special mention for being the only Muslim restaurant in Beijing that truly understands the mechanics of its Shisha pipes. The cool, fragrant smoke of Red Rose's apple tobacco somehow helps Beijing's smog go down that much more easily.
