What's the best running or biking trail in or around Beijing? If there isn't one, then what gym would you recommend joining?

Weigou out by the airport is a good bike trail. There is also this ditch in Wangjing that has a good stretch of wooded hill beside it that is kind of a hidden gem. But the granddaddy of awesome (aside from the secret Xiangshan route) is the new Olympic Green. Last summer it was great to bike in. Nobody there and tons of trails.

I've been rollerblading at Chaoyang Park the past few weekends and it's been quite nice. The pavement from the east gate up to the north gate is new and smooth, and there are almost no cars around there because it's still under development (trees have been planted but no grass yet. The parking lot by one of the east gates is beautiful -- huge & empty except for a few geezers flying kites.

Don't know how long this will last, as I assume they'll finish the landscaping soon and then the crowds will com

2 things (1) be green, reduce pollution and cycle to school or work - all roads have cycle paths, cars and intersections are navigatable, bikes are cheap (2) if you prefer indoors, the health club at Radisson SAS has modern facilities, squash and tennis courts plus morning Taiji lessons - great to absorb Chinese culture whilst getting a good workout! Enjoy!

Xiang Shan is without doubt Beijing's mountain biking Mecca. Bling that che with a good set or shocks, head West past the 5th ring road and hit the trails for some serious singletrack mayhem. Just remember to heed the advice of passing walkers and occassionally "man yidiar!"

There is a forest to the Northwest of Beijing proper, near Dajuesi, called 'Vulture Peak Mountain' (Jiufengsenlingongyuan). If that itself doesn't get you excited, you can expect well-maintained but seldom-used trails that in essence go up and down the mountain. Really what else is there in life other than going up something really big and then going down on the other side? Scattered temples, grand views of Beijing (on a very clear day) , and trails scattered every whichway! I'll be there running around the top sometime later this weekend, see you there!
