Pingyao may be known as the place they filmed Raise the Red Lantern, but going there really feels like going back in time. This UNESCO listed town has well-preserved city walls and some of the best examples of Qing dynasty architecture found anywhere. One of the best ways to see it is by bike. RMB1,800 (includes transportation to and from Beijing), call to arrange departure time.
