Description -
The 3.15- Let’s Consume! exhibition presenting the works of 25 Chinese contemporary artists (painting, photograph, video, sculpture, Installation). March 15 was an ordinary day, until it was proclaimed National Consumers’ Day. That is how important consumption has become to today’s China! Since the 1980s, economic reforms and globalization have fundamentally transformed China’s social structure. Every aspect of life has become increasingly commercialized. Traditional values, behavior, and ideals have all been shaken to their foundations. It seems that consumption is now the ultimate goal, and an entire nation is in the throes of “consumer mania.”
Throughout this extraordinary period, Chinese artists have cast a sharp eye on the metamorphosis of Chinese society. Projecting their innermost feelings through the lens of their art, they offer their unique critiques on existence and spirit in the age of consumerism. Their work lays bare the hidden social phenomena that lurk behind unbridled consumption. Consumerism is a fact, it is everywhere, and it is unstoppable … …
This exhibition commemorates March 15 with a new type of Consumers’ Day.
