Don't be fooled! Contrary to advertisement, the brunch is not actually on the rooftop. I called to get the details on the brunch, and they said that brunch is served in the basement restaurant because they can’t guarantee the quality of the food when cooked upstairs.

LADIES BEWARE! BIG SCAM AT THE EMPEROR..... Let's take a look at the advertisement and what actually happened: 1. "Variety of set menu" - not sure if a mere two options qualify as 'variety', but OK, you could still give this a pass 2. "Brunch on the rooftop" - the actual brunch is in the basement (yes, basement like below ground!) 3. "Free massage included" - there is only one spa employee available to do the massage, so it's kind of hard to have a massage with 9 people showing up for brunch. Each massage lasts 20 minutes so 9 people would actually have to stay 3 hours (!) so that everyone can have a massage! Since we were the only customers last Sunday, I really wonder what would happen if, say, 30 or 40 people would show up for the brunch....do people get a free overnight stay at the hotel while they wait for their massage???

Do you think that all the above would scream heavy discount for any customer unlucky enough to have bought the deal? Well think again, because after many heated discussions and a laughable 10% discount offer by the restaurant manager, we decided to take matters into our own hands and pay RMB 200 each and walk away - a pretty fair deal considering that none of us actually had a massage. The manager followed us all the way out into the street, insisting that we had to pay the rest of the bill and unwilling to negotiate. To make a long story short, 2 hours later 6 women ended up at the local police station filing an official report against the restaurant. Thankfully, the Chinese police was extremely helpful and reasonable, and decided that we would not have to pay the difference.

There are a lot of great places for a Sunday brunch in Beijing....but THIS is surely the worst value for money I have ever seen!

I would also like to tell all to beware of The Emperor. I am not sure if they actually thought anyone in this city or any other for that matter would be willing to pay full price for receiving only half of what was promised. This also assumes that the half that we received, the food, was acceptable - it was inedible. All looked very nice but all the consistency of baby food. I'm not sure about the other ladies in Beijing, but I prefer to chew my food. For someone who has been blessed with mostly very positive experiences in Beijing, I was extremely surprised with the way a group of young women were physically forced by the male hotel staff out of our taxis and threatened with a visit from the police. Also, I was lucky to have been with Chinese-speaking friends, I hate to think what the outcome would have been had I been alone or with other non-speakers. If you and your girlfriends are looking for a new place for Sunday brunch and want to enjoy some of the worst food you have ever had, NOT get a massage, be physically harassed by hotel security, pay exorbitant prices AND spend the rest of the afternoon explaining all of this to the Beijing police and commerce bureau, then this is the place for you.

I went to this and was really unimpressed....for the price, you would expect quality to a similar standard as the international hotels (especially as the only alcohol served is potent plum wine). Overall impressions (in a nutshell) of this place are:

View = beautiful (but all you can really see is the roof-tops of the forbidden city inbetween trees) Quality of food = questionable (I would compare it to a basement buffet, although the dishes had good presentation. Most food was smothered in mayonnaise) Quality of service = poor (food took 2 hours to be served even though we were the only guests) Ambience = non-existent (we were the only people there, and they blasted house music until we told them to turn it down) Overall rating 1-5 (5 being excellent) = negative 1

And did I mention the masseur is someone they call in on an adhoc basis because they have no license to provide spa services?....
