Description

On Saturday, October 18 the NBA comes to Beijing as the Milwaukee Bucks take on the Golden State Warriors. Home town hero Yi Jianlian may have been traded away, but you can bet the crowd will be rocking for rookie Joe Alexander. Joe attended the International School of Beijing for many years and, in a sense, grew up here! Expect a huge ISB delegation to turn out to cheer him on.

We are giving away 10 pairs of tickets to 10 lucky fans. To win:

Tell us who your favorite NBA player is and why.

The best 10 answers win tickets. We will announce the winners on Oct 15 at 6pm.

I grew up in Northeast Ohio, so there's only one answer: LeBron James. Everything about the guy is lovable. From his just-having-fun pregame fooling around to the post-dunk "You can't stop me" stare-down, LeBron embodies everything fun about NBA basketball. Plus, bet you didn't know the state of Ohio risked losing ten percent of it's federal highway money ($130 million a year) because it didnt want to take down a 10-story Witness banner of LeBron in Cleveland.

I am an Italian girl who turns crazy for basket; I used to play in my hometown, Bologna, called Basket City since it has two of the strongest teams in Italy, Virtus and Fortitudo, where Pedrag Danilovic, Zoran Savic, Manuel Ginobili played on one side and even Dominique Wilkins played for a couple of seasons on the opposite side of the moon. My fovourite NBA player is actually a couple...the unbeatable guard-forward combinations Stockton to Malone Honda!!! Their pick and roll is one of basketball's simplest and most effective plays!!! Stockton passes to Malone and 'The Mailman' always delivers!! When I used to play, Stockton made me think that even a white-player could be such a awesome basket player!!!

I got Boston blood in me and it's been boiling since we won that 17th banner this past season! Which makes my choice obvious: Killer Kevin "KG" Garnett. Who has more passion for the game than this guy? He is a MONSTER. His emotions are palpable on the court which is why he is such a good teammate. He was the missing piece to a Celtics team that was blindly headed on a path to mediocrity. He can dunk, shoot, post up, slam the boards, and is time and time again the best defender in the entire league. He transformed one of the worst defenses into the league’s best. Not only that but he is a former MVP of the league after almost single-handily leading the flailing Tiberwolves to the playoffs a couple years ago. So that’s why he’s the best player in the league. Just watch the Celtics pre-game rally. The image that sticks in your mind is the one of KG releasing a primal scream to get the crowd going. I know it got me.

Carmelo Anthony. That dude really impressed me during the Olympics. He shot the three well, defended well (for the first time in his life), and had a smile on his face the entire time. I also had the privilege of seeing him in person (along with the rest of the Dream Team) at Block 8 after the gold medal ceremony. Melo hammed it up with Kobe and Beckham before climbing up to the DJ booth and playing MC. He's my man.

Living in Beijing but coming from Germany my obviuos choice is Dirk Nowitzki. First German in the NBA, MVP in NBA season 2007/07 what more is to say. And he got to carry our Flag at the Olympics opening ceremony. Lucky guy.

Why should it be a current player? The obvious choice is Denise Rodman, one of the most overlooked defensive players of his time.

If we are talking about greatest player in NBA, i think we should mention name Michael Jordan. He is definetely alltime best player in NBA. Jordan's individual accolades and accomplishments include five MVP awards, ten All-NBA First Team designations, nine All-Defensive First Team honors, fourteen NBA All-Star Game appearances and three All-Star MVP, ten scoring titles, three steals titles, six NBA Finals MVP awards, and the 1988 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award. He holds the NBA record for highest career regular season scoring average with 30.12 points per game, as well as averaging a record 33.4 points per game in the playoffs. I think these stats tell enough about him and NBA still waiting to get new superstar like him!

I'm going to have to go with Adam Morrison. Anyone who has the courage to appear in a nationally broadcast basketball game looking like one of the cavemen from the Geico commercials is worthy of my admiration.

See this page for some vintage Morrison coiff action.
