The next in our Escape Concrete Beijing Series takes us to Huairou. This season is the best time of the year and should provide some great photo opps. The mountains of Huairou County will already be decorated with necklaces of red and orange posing charmingly in the autumn wind like a person twisting and turning to see him/herself in the mirror. One of Beijing’s most famous temples, Hongluo Temple, is our destination. We will stroll along mountain paths and enjoy the natural majestic beauty of the red leaves and visit the temple. Lunch will be a signature West China Adventure Tour meal.

Escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown Beijing and venture into the unbelievable Beijing countryside. The Red Shells Temple, or Hongluo Si received its name from a legend that two spiral shells gave out red light in the evening. Located at the foot of the Hongluo Mountain, the temple is seven kilometres northwest of Huairou County. It was first built during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) and covers an area of 16.6 acres. It set amongst hills dotted with pines and cypresses in different shapes, the temple's tasteful layout creates an atmosphere of quiet contemplation.
