PRODUCTION: I Do! I Do!. Two singer/actors are needed for this heartwarming family musical comedy by Tom Jones. Marriage is at the center of this funny, intimate and nostalgic musical by the authors of The Fantasticks. The show begins with Michael and Agnes on their wedding day and traces their life together over a period of 50 years, until the day they leave their house to the next pair of newlyweds. In that time we watch them go through their wedding night jitters, raise a family, negotiate mid-life crises, quarrel, separate, reconcile and grow old together, all lovingly to the strains of a tuneful, charming score which includes the standard My Cup Runneth Over. I Do! I Do! production design by Brandon B. Blackburn-Dwyer.
THEATRE: Beijing Playhouse, China’s English Broadway Theatre.
AUDITION DATES: Sunday, January 10, 2010 at 2 pm and Monday, January 11, 2010 at 6:30 pm.
LOCATION: Beijing Playhouse’s auditions and performances of I Do! I Do! will take place in Chaoyang District. Exact locations to be determined.
ROLE(S): Given that this is a demanding two person show, we are looking for two very talented and experienced singer/actors. All roles open. Ability to perform in English is required; but English as a native language is not required. Auditions are open and anyone can come. We love discovering new talent. We request that interested singers complete the Actor Audition Form in advance. It helps the directors. (Request one and we’ll send it to you.) We’re looking one man, age 20-70 and one woman, age 20-70.
AUDITION FORMAT: At auditions you will be required to sing two songs that you bring—one with accompaniment and one a capella. You will be required to do cold reads from the script as well as dance and improvisation exercises. Monologues are not required, but they’ll give you an advantage and are encouraged. (Call backs, if necessary, Tuesday, January 12 at 6:30 pm.)
