THE ROOF (Italy)

The Roof show you the way out of a world painted tones of grey, and wake up the good vibrations waiting to melt through.This not-only-reggae band from Rome lifts off from a reggae-dub atmosphere to slip into jazz, funk and electronic and beyond. The Roof formed in Rome in 1999. After a pilgrimage to Jamaica, the group chose the name “The Roof Ambassadors”, as homage to “The Roof” disco in Port’Antonio, where dancehall was king. In the autumn of 1999 the group started its first studio sessions, and played live across Italy from 200-2002, including “Rototom Sunsplash” (2000 and 2001). ALTIPIANI released The Roof's first EP “The Roof Ambassadors” in 2003. In 2004 they promoted the EP across Italy, opening for such great artists as Burning Spear and Selecter. Their first LP ”Sottoeffetto”, in 2004, was produced by Altipiani and distributed by Manifesto CD . On this album “The Roof” and Altipiani put together many friends including Ghetto Priest (vocals including Asian Dub Foundation, Sinead O'Connor, Blur); legendary dubmaster Adrian Sherwood (DubSyndacate, Bim Sherman, Junior Delgado); “guitar hero” Scott Henderson (Joe Zawinul, Chick Corea, Jean luc Ponty). After another Italy tour, in 2005, “The Roof” returned to the studio for their second album.
