Beijing’s first non-governmental not for profit art museum has struggled through hot and cold periods. Launching in 2006 with a high profile exhibit of works by Fang Lijun, it has struggled to mount consistently excellent exhibitions. Nevertheless, with rows of spectators sculpted on the roof, looking down on approaching visitors and otherwise excellent infrastructure, it is a cultural landmark in the CBD.
