    Contributor Description

Beijing Feng Tai Li Zhi Healing Center is a non-governmental and non-profit organization (NGO), which cares for and educates Chinese people with disabilities. The center was established in , August, 2000 and it was formally registered as a non-governmental and non-profit organization in the civil administration office of Feng Tai district in May, 2003.

According to its actual situation, a consultant council and a guardian committee have been established, also there are several departments established under the consultant council and the guardian committee, which are central office, educational department, staff department, development department and general affairs department.

All departments have their own specific responsibilities, and cooperate effectively with each other. The center currently has 28 employees.

The center is located in the south-western area of Feng Tai District in Beijing, which has the ground of 3600 square meters. It can serve 80 students at the same time with sufficient facility and nice environment provided.

During the last 6 years, the center has provided the recovery training service for 400 students, and 300 of them have returned to the community, around 40 students went to the society and participated in some competitive works, they have spread at various job positions, and have actualized their dream, which is that they are able to earn their own living.

The main service purpose of the center is to help disabled people to learn how to survive and how to be a good person so that they can add to the positive contribution to the society.

Since the center was established & years ago, it has grown continuously in the service area of special education, and it has improved the quality of the service continuously. With the center’s continuous development, we have also accepted some aid program from both national and international funds. However, there are some barriers that prevent the success of our program application in the program management of the overseas funds due to the differences in culture, language and geography.

Furthermore, we hope we can gather some directions in the area of strategic development and social fund raising for the work of Chinese non-governmental and non-profit organizations through the learning of the operational models of the overseas non-governmental and non-profit organizations.

During the last 7 years, the number of the center’s volunteers have increased quickly, and the volunteer management is getting mature. However, we need to accept new theories and working methods in the area of volunteer’s motivation and how to encourage them to work more actively.
