Winner of the Golden Spoon Award for "Best for Talking Business" in City Weekend's 2007 restaurant survey, Alameda brings a touch of Brazilian sass to the streets of Sanlitun. The short menu changes daily with ingredients as fresh as the chef's take on contemporary cuisine.

Great food, just a few things to correct with this listing Had dinner there with a friend and it was quite nice. A couple of things:

1) It is not "across from the 3.3. shopping complex". It is actually about 100 meters south of the 3.3 shopping complex, in a little alley off the main sanlitun street. From 3.3, go south about 100 meters till you hit an alley going east (other side of street from 3.3) and go in. If you pass Jazz-Ya, you're on the right track.

2) Price per couple is definitely a bit higher. When I went there, there were only set menus available for dinner, at RMB 158 each. The selections were very good, just that you're likely to spend closer to RMB 400 per couple, rather than 100-199 as listed above.

3) Food was very good. Even the bread was excellent. More french sized portions than Brazilian BBQ portions, but very tasty. Worth it.

Alameda is an oasis, but not of tranquility: The food is delicious and the way its prepared one of the best, since rich in details, in town; the wines are great and served at the right temperature and the interior is appealing. The only apparent downside in my eyes is linked to its success (and probably partly to the restaurant's design (lots of glass; tables pretty close together)): it tends to be really loud.

Alameda is delicious food, great service and a relaxing environment to enjoy everything in! The set menus are definitely worth the money because all the dishes are top notch quality treats for the taste buds! (And the free cheese bread is yummy too!) I definitely love going back to this restaurant time and time again. Be sure to make reservations as it does get packed - especially for lunch.

As it said, book ahead and get there in time, otherwise no guarantee that your spot isn't fill up, they run a very very tight ship there.

Food EXCELLENT! Wine selection EXCELLENT! Service, with good English Double EXCELLENT!

Though just heard that Chef Vivi have left the place and planning to open up a second one? Well so far the food has kept it's standard and yummy!

loved the food - for the price. lunch time - u-must-make-re-serv-a-tions. just so that u can avoid sitting down knowing what time u must pay the bill before the next person (who booked at that particular time) comes in...

Great menu with innovative dishes. This restaurant live up to its hype.

I like to go there for lunch, but for an evening dinner the place is just too noisy for being fully enjoyable.

had lunch twice just last week and the food was great. love their cheese balls... suggestion: a bit more salad dressing please? service in general is alright... i think some waitresses can be a little arrogant because they know they're popular... gotta tone it down...

Alameda offers one of the best values in town for a 2- course gourmet lunch in a beautiful, airy setting. From the crumbly, herbed foccacia and cheese balls, to the gorgeous presentation of the appetizers, and substantial portion of the main dishes, the 60 RMB Lunch Rapido satisfies both the budget-conscious diner and the lover of haute cuisine. Plus, the staff scores major bonus points for bringing out everyone's courses at the same time -- an unfortunate rarity in Beijing restaurant service.

Great Food! (Except the bread - dry and hard but disagreed by the waitress)Reasonable Price. Disappointed Services -> Poor Experience.

Excellent value for money! The menu is rather small but varied enough for everybody to find something. The food was really delicious. The starter, some shrimp with spicy sauce..., were just right, the spicy sauce lacked a bit of fantasy though, it looked and tasted like a modified Thai sweet chili chicken sauce but i dont mind since i have a big bottle in the fridge of it and eat it with everything. The fillet mignon was done the way i wanted it and a good tender piece of beef.
The service efficient and friendly. For a relaxed dinner and a longer conversation maybe not the right place since it was crowded and the atmosphere is very energetic.

Alamada is one of my fave spots in Beijing, a little pricey for those of us who are not CEO's and big business people, but still a good spot for a date.

been here twice. i really like the food here. excellent. they serve good wine. the waiter is nice, but overall service is average. my only concern of going back there is the place is soooo noisy. i can hear people next tables talking. and its kinda hard sometime to talk with ur friend coz u have to ask, 'im sorry, what did you say?', 'what was that?', 'im sorry i cant hear you, could u pls say that again?' and its not funny if u have to ask that again and again and again. and if i can hear other people talking, they can hear me talking too. i dont want people to eavesdrop what im talking about when i talk to my friend. but for the food, i think i will go back there again. for sure. i think if i got a seat near the entrance it will not be as noisy as inside.

o forgot to mention. i went there first for dinner. the second one for lunch. always got the seat inside not near the entrance. i found the place is still noisy, but the noise somehow sounds better during the day and it even makes me feel more alive.

The food is always amazing (love the entrecoute steak and crisp salads), the service is wonderful and the 60rmb lunch special is unbeatable! What's not to love?

Went here twice. 1 star off for being yet another perpetrator of the snobby-wait-staff-at-an-expat-frequented-restaurant. Otherwise known as the disease of when Chinese people - wait staff - become snobby toward other Chinese people who enter the store and apparently can't deign to serve them equally. Also, it almost seems like a requirement to speak English here. This is super pretentious. Where do you think you are? Who do you think you are? Even if you are an expat you have no reason to look down on other people, especially the native Chinese who live here. Just because you know English does not mean you are a better/richer/nicer/etc. person.

  1. Dinner was amazing. The scallops were in the shell and baked with cheese and to die for. Amazing. Also had medium well filet mignon, which was also amazing. The passion fruit cocktail was also good, but much stronger than what I was used to so that I almost stumbled out of Alameda. The orange and passion fruit tiramisu was so so. Well worth it. Decor and the quality of the food (and the ENGLISH! I am not saying you can't speak English but please please please deign to speak Chinese to Chinese people if they want to!!!!!) reminded me of eating in the Bay Area, St. Michael's Alley in Palo Alto and (definitely not to the standard of, but perhaps in the spirit of?) the Chez Panisse Cafe in Berkeley. Very nice.

  2. Lunch today. I asked for water five times before they gave me some, although they attentively served it to the table across from me which was full of expats. So I made my next request in English and they finally poured me water. I didn't get my bread until after the table next to me was seated and given bread. I had to ask for it. The food - maybe because of the bad service - did not seem as great as before. A completely overpriced and icky tasty mango juice (was scared of going for a cocktail again), the halibut risotto balls, and the pan fried salmon. Not as spectacular, since I had high expectations and was super excited to go in for the "well worth while power lunch." Had better salmon at the Left Bank, but it is good for Beijing. Not at the same level for dinner, but I can't drop 250 on dinner everyday so we'll see when I go back again.
