A small, cozy place done up with photos of friends images of a Beijing gone by. A resemblance to Passby Cafe in Nanluoguxiang is not coincidental, as the lovely owners used to work there. Order up a pesto pasta followed by a cookie and cream concoction and revel in this little slice of home, a la mode.

Small, cozy place styled in an European manner. Very good service, all staff speaks English. Basic European cuisine and satisfactory selection of wines. It is perfect for a nice, quiet dinner or a date. Definitely worthy paying a visit. Afterwards, decide for yourself...

Warm and cozy restaurant with a small but very decent menu and great wait-staff. The owner used to work at the Passby, and this place has definitely lived up to that, except for the waiting for a table.

Very comfortable, and the staff were very nice. I've been here with a lot of friends, and they all enjoyed it a lot. I had a salad with chicken that was really spicy and not that great, but the pasta is delicious, and I would certainly return.

We visited Album again last week. A pleasant, relaxing experience as usual. They are currently redesigning their wine list and some of the prices&menu items, so I expect that it will only get better in the future. For sure going back...

It's the quiet environment that puts the finishing touches on Album. Nestled off the main streets, Album's innards give off just as much warmth as one gets from the pumpkin soup, pizza or milk tea.
If anything, the only thing missing from Album is the photographs of those that have sat down at the establishment. The restaurant has a few scattered around, but there is still plenty of space to fill on the walls. Bring a picture of yourself and get 10 percent off your meal.

Great things happen when Chinese restauranteurs figure out the science to making jiachangcai versions of European cuisine. You get places like Pass By in Nanluoguxiang and, now, Album for Chaoyang dwellers. Album is home-cooking and Angel and Mark, the two very friendly proprietors, have done a wonderful job tailoring a menu which delivers mad taste for a budget price tag. Start with a creamy pumpkin soup (RMB25) and a plate of tangy gambas shrimp (RMB25). For mains, go for the surprisingly delectable Biff Rydberg with its heaping side of diced and spiced potatoes (RMB68 and don’t pass up the home-made mayonnaise side!). Or order up a plate of the excellent pesto pasta (RMB35) followed up by their unique cookie and cream concoction (RMB25). Wash it all down with glasses of the house wine poured right out of the little barrel on the bar (RMB30 per glass). The resemblances to Pass By are not circumstantial. The two owners used to work there. Album, though, is homage to home and the photos on the walls are of the owners’ friends, people who have passed through, scenes of the old Beijing trapped in the amber of the modern one. It’s everything long-term Beijing expats are after: a slice of home, a la mode.
