This breezy café is nicely minimalist with simple and comfy chairs and tables in a bright and open space. The menu consists predominately of sandwiches with a few salads and dessert options thrown in to complement. The food is undeniably fresh, well-presented and of superior quality.

Opened by the people behind Assaggi March 25th 2007, this Italian coffee shop has restored my faith in Italian sandwiches; the ciabattas and paninis here are great
Located just next to Assaggi (which is currently undergoing renovation; will open mid-April), it's got more than good food in common with its neighbor; the nice decor and big windows makes for a very nice ambiance, and the service has so far been impeccable.
And adding one more ingredient, namely free wifi access, and you have the recipe for my new favorite laptop hangout. I think I'm coming back.

Even though service got worse over the last year I still used to come here once in a while. Today I again was confronted with a staff that obviously didn't get any training from the boss/manager how to be friendly and meet the costumers needs (seems as if the owner doesn't know this eiher..which is proably the reason). Places like this seem to forget that their money comes from the costumers.

I grind my teeth whenever I walk by the one in Sanlitun Village. Every single time I've been there was a royal pain; my personal favorite being the day my boyfriend and I had to wait 45 minutes for our very surly and rude waitress to bring us stone cold paninis. After a long discussion we convinced her to bring us fresh ones, only for her to come back 3 minutes later with the same sandwiches, slightly warmer. She probably shoved them in a microwave for 2 seconds and brought them back. We asked to speak to the manager, and after her 15 minute tirade on how they didn't have a manager/we were just being difficult, we simply got up and left. She chased us down for 5 minutes demanding to be paid.
I could also relate the time we had to argue for 25 minutes over a bill that came back for 780 kuai when all we had was 2 salads and two glasses of wine, or the having to wait for 20 minutes for an espresso and other so many amusing anecdotes.
The one in Sanlitun Beixiaojie is a bit better, but getting the attention of a waitress is always a hassle. I've given up on the place for good. Although good, there are definitely better places to have sandwiches and salads.

Good, but dainty, sandwiches. Slightly disgusted by the 15 rmb charge for the paper-thin slice of fontina. All in all what I'd expect from a trendy sandwich shop.

Best cheesecake with other amazing dessert selection... for food, it's fantastic... but as many have commented... the service leaves a lot to be desired...

Ok this place is one of the best for sandwiches in Beijing, staff is great although sometimes they are a bit to busy. The sandwich selection is great and the chicken sandwich is my number one pick, salad selection is also top notch. For the lunch time crowd show up before 12 as this place gets packed and fills up fast. Also has opened up in Sanlitun Village now look and feel is the same but service not as good in my opinion.

My favourite sandwich place. Based entirely on the sandwiches however. Entire Ciabatta menu is awesome, plus the massive salad (forget what its called). My bad experience (took 1 hour for my sandwich to come out - 20 minutes after ordering they reassured me my sandwich was coming... 40 minutes later they asked me what sandwich i ordered) was redeemed when after a bit of fuss they let me have it for free.

I have to change my six month's ago appraisal. I went to the old location some weeks ago, I found it dirty, staff in panic, different environment. The new location in Sanlitun it seems having the same problem: poor staff's organization, at 8:30 a.m you can't have an expesso because the machine is not working, no food for breakfast.. It's the shadow of the paninoteca that I remember well.

I just want to praise Juliana from City weekend for this excellent cafe! Walking around Sanlitun can be daunting and when you just want a quick bit to eat its difficult to see through fancy menus from various cafes! In we walked to Panino Teca and got an instant good vibe! Its bright and breezy and thats just the staff! It has an excellent menu with a wide variety of different breads!( And we all know how us Westerners love our bread!), I have never felt this way about a Panini before, it was LOVE at first Sight! SO you would think that would satisfy me.... but no! I just had to gorge myself on the melt in the mouth to die for Cheesecake with Strawberry sauce! I nearly went back for a chocolate tart and had to be dragged out backwards.! Great place! Fairly priced for Sanlitun and Yummy!!!

The sandwiches are great but not the environment. went there last weekend with friend, we sat on the sofa, there were millions of flies. stuff explained it's near the bathroom...well the bathroom is two doors away! also the wi-fi sucks... friend is going to email the owner about the over-active flies:-) for a eatery, this isn't very pleasing!

sandwiches are great, but i gotta agree on the service! i tend to just go there for a quick sandwhich for dinner, when i dont feel like eating heavy. evenings are slow there, so you have less trouble with service...

The service is truly appalling. The staff is overwhelmingly poor-trained, and the owner's rude manners just make them panic even more. We waited 1 hour for our lunch today! And the owner did not even listened to our complains. All we got for it was a miserable 10% off. I doubt we will ever eat there again.

This used to be one of my favourite places - sad to say that I have to agree with Alih and Xigor .. I no longer go there after a friend had a similar experience with the owner .. fortunately, Beijing offers one such a wonderful variety of excellent quality spots to visit .. great coffee, good paninis and a sense of community

This place is always full! Easy to see why with their great sandwiches! The owner is a little 'brash' but I havn't ever had a problem with him... Overall - Great!

Paninis are definitely the best in town, but I agree with Alih (comment above), the owner is very rude to the patrons and his own staff. I saw him couple of times treating his staff worse than dogs. When I saw that, I decided that I would not give him any more of my money.
The owner has no sense of management and basic respect to people. If you plan to eat there, please consider those facts.

Really liked their sandwiches and bruschetta. Very pleasant place to pass some time. Am a big fan of the panna cotta.

Nice place, good sandwiches. Sometimes a little too loud if you want to do some work on your laptop (especially if the boss is around - really funny guy).

Italians do it better...

Will not go back. This used to be a favorite of mine, but no longer. Owner extremely rude and unprofessional, rushing patrons out with simply, "I need your table," when not even finished with drinks. No use of "please," no pleasantries.

Came here on recommendation by a colleague and was not disappointed! In face, I have been craving another foccacia sandwich ever since!

It's still my favorite sandwich shop.

I also think this place makes a mean sandwich. Glad to see the area getting more and more cafe-ized. Assaggi next door needs a good wine happy hour and we're ready to go.

nice place, nice sandwiches & bruschettas, nice desserts! not too expensive, service could be inmproved but it's only a café!! i like going there once in a while for a quick lunch
