City Weekend Says

Located inside the Volkswagen office’s showroom, this little cafe sells a healthy range of Western lunchtime items, including sandwiches, salads and empanadas made at TERRA, SALT cheese breads and Lollipop Bakery cupcakes. We recommend the crispy bacon panini. Service is exceptionally attentive and friendly.

Tucked behind the luxury cars on the ground floor of the Volkswagen Group building in Sanlitun, Zest is a great little coffee shop that sells fresh paninis, sandwiches, salads, cheese bread, pies and empanadas from SALT and TERRA, cupcakes from Lollipop Bakery, delicious Hegel's Bagels, a great range of IF Juices, a fridge full of waters and drinks and chocolates and fruit if you are after a quick snack as well as excellent coffee! Paninis are well-priced at 28rmb, espressos 15, cappuccinos, lattes and long blacks with milk are just 20. Journey to the Zest

3.5/5 stars

Lunch at Zest is the most Western experience we’ve had since our last trip home. The little café is set inside the Volkswagen office’s showroom, which means a view of the latest car models and the sounds of German and English rising from nearby tables. The small menu is what you’d expect for a healthy, light, Western lunch. The sandwiches (¥28-30), made at TERRA, are quite good, and generous on the fillings. Our favorite was the popular crispy bacon panini, made with a delicious Waldorf salad and smoky bacon. There are also decent mixed salads (¥25), SALT cheese breads (¥15/three pieces), empanadas (¥18), Lollipop Bakery cupcakes (¥20) and iF juices (¥15-25). Service is exceptionally attentive and friendly.
